Job Description: The Cambridge University American Football team is seeking a Defensive Coordinator to help guide and support the development and execution of our defensive strategy. We are coming off our most successful season yet: League Champions, winners of the Northern Conference Cup, promoted to BUCS 1A, and victors over Oxford in the Varsity Match. We are now looking for a coordinator who can help us build on that momentum and keep our defence at the front of the pack.

The club trains twice a week (Wednesday evenings & Sunday early afternoons) and plays matches on Sundays during term, competing in BUCS 1A and the annual Varsity Match against Oxford. This is a hands-on coaching role suited to someone with tactical expertise, strong communication skills, and a genuine passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the field.

Key Responsibilities
• Contributing to the design and coaching of the defensive Scheme
• Supporting the development and coordination of defensive drills and training plans
• Assisting with organising or presenting defensive film sessions
• Helping with scouting opponents or gathering relevant statistics
• Encouraging positive team culture within the defensive squad
• Supporting players in learning safe tackling techniques
What We're Looking For
• A solid understanding of American football defensive systems and play design
• Coaching or playing experience at a competitive level
• The ability to plan and deliver structured, engaging training sessions
• Strong analytical skills for scouting and statistical review
• A firm commitment to player safety and well-being
• An effective communicator who can collaborate with a wider coaching staff

Details
This is a volunteer coaching position with the Cambridge University Pythons American Football Team. Volunteers are welcome to support regular training sessions and matchdays throughout the season, and individuals can choose the level of involvement that works for them. Matchday expenses are reimbursed in accordance with the Clubs policies.
