Overview

Boxing featured all the way back at the ancient Olympic Games in the 7th century BC - there they fought with strips of leather wrapped around their fists! In the 19th century, boxing was formalised with rules in Great Britain and it has featured at all modern Olympic Games since 1904, except 1912.

At Tokyo 2020 women will compete in five weight divisions and men in eight divisions. Read more on the Tokyo 2020 website.

The UK National Governing Body is GB Boxing, based in Sheffield. Find out more on the GB Boxing website.
