Fulham Reach Boat Club is excited to be recruiting for a Community Youth Lead Coach.
About FRBC
We are a dynamic and growing charity with a bold vision of using Sport for Good. At FRBC, we believe in making rowing inclusive, accessible, and impactful—particularly for young people who are underrepresented in the sport. FRBC is an innovative and award-winning charity, World Rowing Programme of the Year and UK Community Sports Club of the Year, as well as certified as a Great Place to Work 2024/25.
We're looking for an enthusiastic and driven individual to join our team and lead the delivery of youth community programmes that inspire, empower, and create real change.
About the Role
The Community Youth Lead Coach plays a key leadership role at FRBC, overseeing the delivery of our year-round junior rowing programme. This includes managing the junior squad, bursary places and talent inclusion pathway, junior courses and youth volunteering opportunities.
The successful candidate will ensure a safe, fun, and developmentally rich environment for young people, while also building strong partnerships and helping us grow our reach and impact.
This is a visible, hands-on role that requires initiative, creativity, and a deep commitment to widening access to rowing.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and deliver a structured and engaging junior rowing programme aligned with key events and challenges throughout the year, including FRBC’s events like the Festive Fun River Run, and an event in partnership with The Boat Race, The Youth Boat Race.
• Plan and lead junior rowing courses and junior squad development camps, outside of school term time.
• Manage and promote the junior bursary scheme to ensure inclusive participation and a talent inclusion pathway is developed to find and nurture talent from diverse backgrounds.
• Coordinate and communicate weekly training plans with young people, session coaches and volunteers. Also provide relevant communications to parents and build community engagement from family and friends.
• Coordinate and manage junior and adult volunteers helping on junior sessions, this includes volunteer groups of juniors from local private schools
• Ensure full compliance with Safety and Safeguarding, British Rowing’s Row Safe, Tideway Code navigation rules, UK Coaching and British Rowing Safeguarding.
• Collaborate with the COO, fundraising team, and booking officer to support school programmes, bursary placements, and Free Water Sports Weeks.
• Cultivate partnerships with our current funders and external rowing clubs to support the Talent Inclusion Pathway.
• Maintain accurate databases of participants and parents; coordinate the collection and analysis of impact and evaluation data to help our charity celebrate our impact and continuously improve.
Essential Skills and Experience
• Minimum 2 years of experience coaching a club or squad.
• British Rowing Level 2 Coaching Qualification.
• RYA Level 2 Powerboat Handling Certificate.
• UK Coaching Safeguarding qualifications for working with children and young people.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Proficiency in digital tools, apps, and software for communication and administration.
• Excellent communication, organisational, administrative, and customer service skills.
• A team player who is friendly, motivated, innovative, and adaptable.
Desirable Skills and Experience
• Experience in youth work and volunteer management.
• Knowledge of coaching on the Tideway.
• Experience in beach sprint and talent inclusion.
• Content creation and video skills.
• Trailer towing qualification or experience.
What We Offer
• Competitive salary and generous company pension.
• Free use of FRBC gym, equipment, boats, and facilities.
• Work use of FRBC laptop and towing vehicle.
• Opportunities for professional development and additional training.
• Access to a learning community of over 40 professional coaches.
• Regular FRBC team events and socials.
