Job Description
The role

Notting Hill & Ealing High School, one of London’s leading independent girls’ day schools, is seeking to appoint an inspirational and enthusiastic Assistant Director of Sport (Head of Netball) covering a period of maternity leave.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity which offers an ambitious and talented Teacher of Sport the chance to step into a leadership position within a highly regarded school environment. As Assistant Director of Sport (Head of Netball), you will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the strong profile of sport across the school, with particular responsibility for leading and developing netball.

Working closely with the Director of Sport, you will assist with the day-to-day running of the department, including the management and coordination of staff, and will gain valuable experience for those aspiring to become a Director of Sport in the future.

About you

We are looking for a well-qualified and motivated Teacher of Sport with a genuine passion for netball and excellent subject knowledge. The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of GCSE Physical Education, so applicants must therefore have proven experience of teaching academic PE within a growing and ambitious department. A strong coaching background in netball is essential, along with the confidence to teach at least one of the school’s other core sports, which includes athletics, gymnastics, dance, tennis and cricket.

If you are a good communicator who can enthuse and inspire both pupils and colleagues and have exciting ideas about the teaching of Sport and the ways in which it can be further developed and encouraged, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Teaching at NHEHS

‘’Teaching sport at NHEHS is about working in a supportive and ambitious department, offering clear performance pathways for those striving for excellence, and helping every student to find enjoyment, confidence and a lifelong love of sport. Working here is exactly what I hoped teaching physical education would be like when I entered the profession.’’

- Head of Department

About the School

NHEHS is a leading academic day school. Our girls are ambitious, bright, enthusiastic and eager to learn and we offer a warm and supportive community. We occupy a site in suburban, leafy, west Ealing with excellent transport links.

Benefits:

As part of the GDST, the UK's leading network of independent girls' schools, we can offer a variety of benefits, such as:

• Competitive terms and conditions of employment, and competitive salaries and pay progression
• Membership of the GDST flexible pension scheme (12% employer contribution and flexibility to generate a pay top-up of up to 10% of pensionable salary in lieu of pension)
• 36-week school year (including INSET days) across 3 terms, with a 2-week half term in the Autumn
• 36 hour working week for full time support staff
• Access to extensive professional development opportunities and training grants for qualifications
• Free life assurance benefit
• Employee Assistance Programme via Health Assured, offering free 24-hour counselling, wellbeing support and advice services
• A discount of up to 50% on fees for children at GDST schools
• Free lunches for all staff during term time (equivalent to at least £900 per year)
• In-school staff wellbeing activities and access to the school gym with swimming pool.
• Interest-free loans for training, computer purchase and travel season ticket loans
• A Cycle to Work scheme

Closing date: Sunday 22nd February 2026 (12pm) early applications are welcomed.

Interviews will take place on Thursday 26th February 2026, but early interviews may be conducted.

Early applications are encouraged and we reserve the right to close applications and interviews at any point in the process.

We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from all qualified individuals. To be eligible for employment, candidates must provide proof of their right to work in the UK.

NHEHS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the DBS. Applications will be considered only from candidates who are eligible to work in the UK.

The GDST is committed to diversity, inclusion and real change: a family where every individual is valued, respected and included.
