About British Eventing 

British Eventing is the national governing body for the sport of eventing in the UK. We are dedicated to growing the sport and achieving our mission: to inspire the nation, and the world, through equestrianism. 

We represent our country and sport on the global stage, encouraging increased participation across the UK. We are responsible for all levels of eventing — from grassroots to elite — ensuring the success and progression of both our athletes and our sport. Through horsemanship, partnership, and respect, we nurture the development of future champions and ensure eventing continues to flourish across Britain. 

With a new governance structure now in place British Eventing is entering an exciting new chapter — one that demands agility, creativity, and bold ambition.

The Opportunity 

We are looking for people who align with our values and want to join us in our mission to inspire the UK through the sport of eventing. 

British Eventing is undergoing significant transformation — reimagining leadership behaviours, refining our purpose, enhancing capabilities, and evolving our structures to deliver impact across every level of the sport, from grassroots riders to international competitors. 

We are finalising our 5 year strategic plan, with bold ambitions that include: enhancing the UK's leading eventing venues to set new environmental and performance standards, embracing digital innovation to better serve our members and fans, inspiring the next generation of riders and spectators, and creating new global revenue streams. These initiatives are vital to securing the long-term success and sustainability of British eventing. 

To help realise this vision, we are seeking a Independent Non-Executive Directors with a strong background in either digital transformation, marketing or commercial relationship building, alongside broader business leadership and governance experience. While these are the skills we are focusing on, we would love to hear from anyone with strong business backgrounds.   

We want people who are passionate about equestrian sport and committed to helping British Eventing grow commercially, sustainably, and inclusively. Aligning activity on and off the course is essential to reinvesting in, expanding, and securing the future of eventing for the next generation. 

Role Profile 
Independent Non-Executive Director 

The British Eventing Limited Board is accountable for overseeing the creation, implementing, and delivery of the strategy and budget for British Eventing. 

This board includes both Executive and Non-Executive Directors and is chaired by an independent Chair. A key aspect of the INED role is to constructively challenge, support, and mentor the leadership team and fellow Board members as they drive strategic priorities and overall business performance.

This is a non-remunerated position with an expected commitment of 2–3 days per month, with a mix of face-to-face and hybrid meetings. 

What You Need to Succeed 
We're looking for someone who will: 

Champion and support business transformation, with experience in commercial, digital or marketing. 

Inspire and support the Board and leadership team to set and deliver ambitious plans. 

Help British Eventing expand its profile and influence as a globally respected brand that resonates across generations. 

Advocate for the continued development of our people, culture, and capabilities — ensuring we attract, retain, and grow the talent needed to fulfil our mission.

Strategic business and leadership experience with a strong understanding of governance and non-executive responsibilities. 

A forward-thinking mindset, with the curiosity and knowledge to support innovation and sustainable growth. 

A collaborative leader with the influence and credibility to engage stakeholders across the British equestrian community and beyond. 

A trusted advisor and mentor, with the integrity to guide and challenge leadership in doing the right thing — not just the easy thing.
