It boasts a strong, loyal and passionate fan base and home games are played at the idyllic Recreation Ground in the city centre.

The Role
Bath Rugby is seeking an enthusiastic and driven Academy Physical Performance Coach to join our team, working across the Foundation and Development phases across the pathway and Beechen Cliff School (ACE partnership).

This pivotal role will focus on designing and delivering progressive, individualised physical development programmes for academy players, ensuring they are physically prepared and psycho-behaviourally equipped to thrive through every stage of the Bath Rugby performance pathway.

The successful candidate will play a key role within our multidisciplinary team, contributing to on-field performance, injury rehabilitation, player education, and long-term athlete development—both on and off the pitch.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, programme, and implement periodised Physical Performance plans tailored to the Foundation, Development stages and individual needs of Academy players.
• Collaborate in the creation and delivery of player education resources and structured off-field education programmes focused on lifestyle, recovery, and performance behaviours.
• Lead and coach gym-based and field-based sessions with a focus on individual progression and performance outcomes through Foundation and Development stages of the pathway.
• Support the implementation of rehabilitation programmes for injured players, in alignment with medical and physiotherapy staff.
• Contribute to match day operations and training delivery across all Academy squads, ensuring players are physically and mentally prepared.
• Identify physical performance gaps and individual rate limiters in emerging players across the Academy pathway.
• Participate in regular Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) and case conference meetings to align development strategies.
• Contribute to the creation and review of Individual Development Plans (IDPs) in collaboration with Academy staff.
• Maintain consistent communication with relevant staff to ensure coordinated and optimal player management.
• Track internal and external training loads using established monitoring systems and methodologies.
• Maintain a comprehensive and up-to-date database of performance and physical metrics
• Conduct regular visits to satellite centres and partner schools to support programme delivery and engage with key stakeholders.
• Facilitate planning and feedback meetings with external stakeholders e.g., International coaches to maintain alignment

About You
Required Experience & Attributes:
• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree qualification in a subject of relevance e.g., Sports Science, Exercise Physiology or a closely related qualification
• Good knowledge and understanding of rugby union
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence players in their developmental stages
• A strong competitive mindset with the drive to achieve and lead a team to be physically and mentally prepared
• Highly organised and confident in managing systems
• A collaborative team player who thrives in a dynamic and evolving environment.
• Full UK driving license required
• It is preferred that the candidate has experience coaching in a competitive team environment, ideally within Rugby.

Location
Based at Bath Rugby’s Head Office, Farleigh House (BA2 7RW), with regular attendance required at The Rec in Bath city centre. Due to the rural location and limited public transport, applicants must live within commuting distance and have access to their own transport.
