Look Ahead to Day 5

Published 12 September 2016

The race to watch in the athletics stadium today will be David Weir, four-time gold medallist at London 2012, against teammate and close rival Richard Chiassaro in the men’s T54 400m.

London 2012 discuss champion Aled Davies has switched to the F42 shot put following the news that his event would not feature at Rio 2016. The Welshman still remains a favourite for the win, and competes alongside Sam Ruddock, who will go in the F35 category. Johnathan Broom-Edwards is also one to watch in the T44 High jump.

Ellie Simmonds will seek to win a medal in her favoured event, the S6 200m individual medley, at her third consecutive Paralympic Games. Great Britain stalwart Sascha Kindred, who is competing at his sixth Games, will also be hoping for glory in the same event. With a silver in the event at London after golds in Sydney, Athens and Beijing, reclaiming the title would be a magnificent moment in Rio.

Other swimmers who will be hoping to add to the GB’s already impressive medal tally are Susie Rodgers in the S7 50m butterfly (0019), Alice Tai, who will be looking to add to her bronze medal in the S10 100m butterfly, and Andrew Mullen in the S5 50m free.

The table tennis competition is reaching the finals stage with British medal hopes in the form of Sue Gilroy in Class 4 and Will Bailey in Class 7. Bayley will be looking to go one better than his silver medal in London four years ago, while Sue will compete for bronze.

In archery, the mixed compound team will be looking to achieve an archery medal. The team compound open, W1 and recurve finals all take place today, and in boccia the BC4 Pairs event concludes, with GB in the bronze medal match.

And finally sailing gets under way with the opening two races in the 2.4mR event, featuring defending champion Helena Lucas.

Medal highlights for the day ahead are below (times denoted are BST) and for results and medal table, visit our interactive micro-site #EVERYROADtoRIO Live. Catch up with events from yesterday, here.
