Location Manchester - Programme Dates: Saturday 12 July 2025 – Friday 1 August 2025 Contract type Fixed Term (Full time) Closing date 5 May 2025 Interview date 12 May 2025 Job Description OVERVIEW Manchester City Sports Business School (MCSBS) was created to provide an immersive insight to students and professionals who want to know more about working in the business of sport. We deliver programmes that connect students with the ideas and innovations that shape the global sport economy. Being a Chaperone for our Next Gen programme is an exciting, fast-paced, and varied role. The ideal candidates for this role will have a love for sports, the capacity to stay focused under pressure, and some experience of providing student support services and/or student experiences in an educational setting. The selected candidates will be a core part of the Next Gen delivery team, working closely with the Head of Operations and Student Services, the Programme Content Manager, and Residential Advisors. As a group, you will be supporting and assisting a cohort of international students who are in Manchester to experience a unique immersive programme. Students will be aged between 14 and 17 and some may be living and learning in the UK for the very first time. This is a temporary post, with induction training provided before the programme starts on Sunday 13 July 2025.KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES• Providing a pleasant and warm welcoming induction to the programme and the accommodation facilities.• Overseeing the curricular elements of the Next Gen programme, with the direction and support of the Next Gen Programme team.• Taking an active interest in the welfare of the students under your care when on duty.• Highly visible as a positive and responsible influence and readily contactable during your duty hours.• A calm first responder for any emergencies or incidents while on duty.• Regular and timely communication with the programme team regarding welfare issues or concerns, behavioural issues, activity plans and any other relevant observations.• Encouraging student adherence to the Code of Conduct and agreeing appropriate strategies in the event of behavioural issues.• Facilitating small group sessions such as ice breakers, games, and discussions.• Accompanying and/or assisting with the co-ordination of special events or activities, as required.• Ensuring the health, safety and welfare of students, staff, and visitors, in line with Manchester City Sports Business School’s policies, procedures and guidance.PATTERN OF DUTIES• Shift work, including weekdays, and potentially evenings and weekends, for the duration of the programme.• Average of 40 hours per week.• Please note, it is expected that successful candidates will be available for the full duration of the programme, unless agreed in advance.PERSON SPECIFICATION• Must be aged 18 or above and must be eligible to work in the UK.• Experience of working with young people aged 14-17 years in a professional or voluntary capacity.• Experience of activity planning, facilitation, event co-ordination and/or proven organisational skills.• Experience of providing student support services in a professional or voluntary capacity.• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a hard-working and friendly delivery team.• An interest in the world of sports and sports industry.• Live in Manchester/Salford area and available to commute to campus for the specified programme dates.• Must have or be able to acquire a clear Enhanced DBS check (cost covered by MCSBS).• Desirably, first aid, mental health first aid, and safeguarding trained.Manchester City Sports Business School is dedicated to fostering a diverse and dynamic environment, including but not limited to age, race, religion, gender, disability, sexual orientation, socio-economic background.
