Chair of Kyniska Advocacy's Board of Trustees Organisation Kyniska Advocacy Ltd Salary Voluntary Position Location Remote Contract type Volunteer Closing date 18 March 2026 Job Description Job Description We’re seeking an experienced, thoughtful Chair to lead our Board and support the organisation’s strategic direction, good governance, and accountability.At Kyniska Advocacy, our vision is a sporting community which fosters a safe environment for all athletes and has the protection and welfare of women at its heart.As we continue to grow as an organisation, we’re looking for someone who combines a deep passion for our cause with the ambition to help shape a safer, more equitable sporting world, guiding the Board with integrity, clarity, and a shared commitment to sport that protects, respects, and empowers.Role Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Governance:Support the strategic direction of Kyniska Advocacy in partnership with the CEO.Provide oversight to ensure the charity’s activities comply with UK charity law, Charity Commission guidance, and the organisation’s governing documents.Ensure the Board of Trustees provides effective oversight and accountability.Act as an advisory for both political engagement and long-term strategy of the organisation. Act as a public champion for Kyniska Advocacy, leveraging networks to enhance the organisation’s reputation and reach.Engage with key stakeholders, including funders, partners, policymakers, and the sports sector.Board & organisational development:Chair Board meetings, ensuring agendas are forward-thinking and strategic.Encourage Board members to actively engage in discussions, decision-making, and external advocacy.Lead Board succession planning and recruitment to ensure a diverse, skilled, and engaged Board.Oversee Board members’ development, ensuring they have the tools, knowledge, and training needed.Promote an inclusive, transparent, and supportive culture among the Board and leadership team.Financial & operational oversight:Approve and monitor budgets, spending plans, and fundraising strategies.Support non-grant fundraising and partnership opportunities to support financial sustainability.CEO support & accountability:Work closely with the CEO, providing support while ensuring accountability.Agree annual performance objectives with the CEO and conduct periodic reviews.Support leadership succession planning for long-term organisational sustainability.Minimum Requirements:Demonstrated experience serving on a Charity Board of Trustees or similar senior organisational positionStrong governance and facilitation skillsConfidence overseeing risk, finance, and organisational performanceA collaborative, trauma-informed approach and commitment to safeguardingCommitment to equity, inclusion, and meaningful participation (including lived experience voices)Understanding of sport and sports systems in the UK (Desirable)Experience working with founder-led or growing organisations (Desirable)We are proudly athlete-led and lived-experience-led. Time Commitment: 4 meetings/year + preparation; occasional check-ins with the CEO. Term: 2 yearsAll reasonable travel and subsistence will be reimbursed.
