Job Description
Superstadium Management Company are seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy Head Grounds Person to play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the quality of our stadium and training pitches. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled professional with a passion for sports turf management to contribute to the success of the Club by ensuring our playing surfaces and grounds are maintained to the highest possible standards. The successful candidate will combine hands-on technical expertise with strong leadership, supporting the Head Grounds Person in delivering excellence across all facilities.



Position Type: Permanent, Full time

Hours: 37.5 per week (full time)

Location: MKM Stadium, Hull HU3 6HU / Cottingham Training Ground

Salary/Pay: £32,000

Closing Date: Wednesday 31st December 2025

Your key responsibilities

Prepare, maintain, and mark out sports pitches at the stadium and training facilities to ensure they meet high standards and are safe for training and matches.

Carry out post-match pitch remediation and general grounds maintenance, ensuring all areas remain tidy, safe, and presentable.

Supervise and assist in the daily management of the grounds staff team; deputise for the Head Grounds Person as required.

Operate and maintain all machinery safely in compliance with Health & Safety regulations, ensuring daily checks and records are completed.

Manage stock levels of materials such as fertilisers and seeds; liaise with the Head of Operations for replenishment.

Work with suppliers and consultants to adopt improved maintenance practices and undertake relevant training.

Maintain surrounding green areas, including pest and weed control, soil improvement, landscaping, and path care.

Regularly operate vehicles, powered tools, and hand tools for grounds and pitch maintenance.

Demonstrate strong self-motivation, organisation, planning, and time management skills.

Possess practical experience and knowledge in amenity gardening, tree and shrub care, propagation, and conservation practices.



What are we looking for?

UK Driving Licence, with Category E entitlement to tow trailers (Essential)

Level 3 (or working towards) in Amenity Horticulture or Level 2 in Sports Turf Management (Essential)

PA1 and PA6a spraying certificates (Desirable)

A minimum of 2 years’ experience of working in the sports turf industry. (Essential)

Previous experience within a managerial or supervisory role, leading a team (Essential)

General knowledge of fertilisers and pesticides (Essential)

Experience in using pedestrian lawnmowers (cylinder and rotary). (Essential)

Adaptable to change with strong teamwork and self-motivation.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills at all levels.

Committed to personal development and aligned with the Club’s goals and vision.

Professional representative of Hull City and SMC.

Visionary leader capable of motivating and guiding the grounds team to achieve high performance across all sites.

The safeguarding and welfare of our players is paramount and as such this position is subject to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)

In accordance with current legislative requirements the successful applicant must produce documentary verification of their eligibility to work in the UK and will not be allowed to start work until this has been received.
