Grace Cullen 25 April 2012

Commenting on the announcement made by the British Olympic Association today (25 April) on the selection of five canoe slalom athletes to compete for Team GB, UK Sport Chief Executive, Liz Nicholl, said: “Congratulations to David [Florence], Richard [Hounslow], Lizzie [Neave], Tim [Baillie] and Etienne [Stott] who have today been confirmed as the latest members of Team GB and will compete at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

“With over £16 million of National Lottery, Exchequer and Team 2012 money invested in GB Canoeing over the current Olympiad, UK Sport is proud to be supporting this group of talented athletes, who have clear medal potential, in their preparations for the Games.

“The development of the world class facilities at Lee Valley White Water Centre, and the relocation of the British squad, has given the team’s preparations for the Games a real boost and created a fantastic legacy for the sport, demonstrated by our successful bid for the 2015 World Championships.”

UK Sport also wishes to congratulate Claire Hallissey and Dave Webb, who were selected for Team GB at the beginning of the week (23 April), claiming the final two spots on the GB marathon team, joining Paula Radcliffe, Mara Yamauchi and Scott Overall, who were selected in December.
