Baroness Sue Campbell, chair of the Youth Sport Trust, is to carry the Olympic flame ahead of London 2012 after being confirmed as a Torchbearer.
Sue, also Chair of UK Sport, the nation's Elite sports agency, who was selected through the Lloyds TSB nomination campaign, has been with the Youth Sport Trust since the charity's inception in 1994 and in June 2003 was awarded a Commander of the British Empire for her services to sport.
Before joining the Youth Sport Trust, Sue was Chief Executive of the National Coaching Foundation (now Sportscoach UK) for 11 years. Among many honours, she has received nine honorary doctorates, the most recent being from Bedford University and Endicott College in America.
Speaking of her role as a Torchbearer, she said: “London 2012 is going to be a special moment in time for this country and I am proud to be playing a part in this magnificent event. It is an absolute privilege to be carrying the torch and I am very much looking forward to this wonderful celebration of sport and the inspiration it will provide to young people.”
Also carrying the torch will be Will Roberts, Youth Sport Trust Competition and Talent Manager, who has worked on the delivery of the UK School Games and more recently the new Sainsbury’s 2012 School Games, and Debbie Foote, a former Young Ambassador who is now undertaking an internship with the Youth Sport Trust.
