The Olympic and Paralympic high-performance sport community has been celebrated as the world welcomed a new calendar year. 29 individuals from across the community have been recognised in the 2024 New Year Honours list; an opportunity to say thank you for the extraordinary service of the recipients across sport.
The list of achievements from across the UK, for services to sports, national and international governing bodies, and major events, through dedication to initiatives such as social impact, governance, medicine, and performance has been exemplary.
Among those in receipt of awards were current and former Great Britain athletes, including Olympic hockey goalkeeper, Maddie Hinch; Olympic race walker, Tom Bosworth; Becky and Ellie Downie, Olympic gymnasts; and former Olympic rower Miriam Luke, for services to their sport.
Alongside athletes that have contributed to the success of major events by their amazing performances on the field of play during the UEFA Women’s Euro 2021 tournament include, Millie Bright, Mary Earps and Lauren Hemp.
A special mention also to, Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield, former Leeds Rhinos, England and Great Britain rugby league players, who have been recognised for their work, creating awareness of motor neurone disease (MND). Sinfield completed his third running challenge in December 2023, having raised over £5 million for various MND charities since 2020. He finished his second challenge at the RLWC2021 final, entering the pitch in front of a sell-out Old Trafford crowd in November 2022.
A massive congratulations to all those recognised from everyone at UK Sport.
