UK Sport has warmly welcomed the launch of the new Sport Strategy (Get Active: A strategy for the future of sport and physical activity) from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) alongside the updated Gold Framework.
Sally Munday, CEO of UK Sport, said: “This is an important day for sport in the UK and we welcome the focus on sport which this strategy represents and the significance it places on sport to national life in the UK.
“As the Strategy reminds us, British people feel great pride when they watch British athletes succeed at the very highest level and Olympic and Paralympic sport plays an essential role in the stability and future sustainability of the UK’s sporting system. The commitment the strategy provides to continuing to support our Olympic and Paralympic athletes at Paris 2024 and beyond is therefore hugely welcome, while the recognition of the importance of strengthening integrity and safeguarding provision in sport is also encouraging.
“I’m also pleased to see the Government’s long term commitment to hosting major sporting events in the UK – and at UK Sport we are particularly excited by the launch of the updated Gold Framework today which breaks new ground with the importance it places on the social impact delivered by major sporting events on communities across the nation.
“We look forward to working closely with our colleagues in DCMS and our other partners on the delivery of this updated strategy which aligns with our ambition to remain a top five nation in Olympic and Paralympic sport, and our ten year mission to create the greatest decade of extraordinary sporting moments that unite and inspire the nation.”
