Look Ahead to Day 2

Published 7 August 2016

All eyes will be on the pool as three-time world champion Adam Peaty goes for gold in the 100m breaststroke after setting a new world record yesterday.

2014 European Champion Jazz Carlin goes in the 400m freestyle and is among a number of swimmers who could contest for a medal behind the favourite for gold, American Katie Ledecky who has nine world titles to her name.

Featuring in the rowing heats today is Helen Glover and Heather Stanning, who begin the defence of their Olympic title from London 2012. Alex Gregory, Mohammed Sbihi, George Nasha and Constantine Louloudis have the men’s coxless four heat; they will be hoping to replicate the success of Britain’s four at London 2012.

Britain's only fencers competing in Rio go in the men's individual foil. Competing is four time Olympian Richard Kruse, who is currently ranked world number six and his world number five teammate James Davis, who won Britain's first European title in this event.

Commonwealth champion Colin Oates takes part in the men's judo -66kg category, and the knockout stages of the women’s rugby sevens begin after the British women’s final pool match against Canada earlier in the afternoon. Meanwhile in men’s hockey, Great Britain come up against New Zealand in the evening.

Further details of day 2 highlights are listed below (times denoted are BST), or to catch up with yesterday’s events click here.
