The British Gas GBR Diving Team has been announced to compete in the London leg of the FINA/NVC Diving World Series (25 – 27 April).
The event, part of UK Sport’s £27 million National Lottery funded Gold Event Series, will see Tom Daley in action for the first time in his new home pool.
Olympic bronze medallist Daley will take to the boards in the men’s 10m Platform which takes place on Sunday 27 April and is likely to face strong competition from world and Olympic medallists.
At the start of 2014, Daley made the move from Plymouth to London and began a new programme with new coach Jane Figueiredo.
"This will be the first time that I will have competed at an international at my home pool and it is something that I am really excited about,” Daley said. “I have been in London now for almost two months and I love it. The pool holds such good memories for me and is always impressive when you walk in.
"It’s going to be good to compete alongside the world’s best and I know that it will be a tight 10m Platform final with the likes of David [Boudia] in the mix. He showed he is world class at London 2012 and it’s going to be good to go up against him again and see where we’re both at, at this point in the season.
"The home crowd support is something that is so important for all of the divers and it really inspired us all at the London Olympics. It’s going to be fantastic to have the same sort of crowd come and cheer on the British team this year and hopefully show them all how good diving is ahead of the Commonwealths in the summer."
Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow will be back in action following Couch’s knee injury and will want to show they are back to their best in both the women’s 10m Platform events. They will be in action on both the first day and last day of competition.
Chris Mears and Jack Laugher make up the British team’s new 3m Synchro pairing and after missing the British Gas National Cup in January down to injury they will want to make an impact on the international stage. Laugher will also compete in the 3m Individual on 26 April.
World Series medallists Rebecca Gallantree and Alicia Blagg are lining up in the women’s 3m Synchro on 25 April and are aiming to repeat their silver medal-winning performance from last year's home World Series leg in Edinburgh.
The men’s 10m Synchro sees a new pair of Matty Lee and Daniel Goodfellow stepping out on to the boards. Lee, who turned 16 in March this year, is new to the senior team and will want to take what he has learnt from the Beijing and Dubai legs into the pool that was used for the London Olympic Games.
"I’m extremely excited competing in London with a home crowd and it being the first competition there since the Olympics," Lee said. "I thought it was a great venue and I was lucky enough to see two diving events and felt that the atmosphere was incredible.
"I know everyone really well and we are all good friends; some of the team are going to be helping me with my revision for my GCSEs. I think being the youngest is a good thing as I’m going to be looked after by the team.
"Dan and I are going out there to see how we measure up against the best in the world and to learn from this experience for our future."
Spectators can still buy tickets for the event on the FINA Diving World Series website and will get to see some of the best diving outside of a World Championships with a strong field expected to take to the boards.
Thanks to a partnership between British Swimming, UK Sport, London and Partners, London Legacy Development Corporation and charitable social enterprise GLL, the event will make its debut in London.
