Head of Academy Medical Organisation Charlton Athletic Football Club Salary TBC Location Sparrows Lane, Eltham, London, SE9 2JR Contract type Permanent (Full time) Closing date 22 May 2024 Job Description Job Title: Head of Academy MedicalDepartment: Academy/MedicalLocation: Sparrows Lane or As RequiredReports to: Academy Director, Head of Medical, Director of Performance ServicesJOB PURPOSETo manage, coordinate and supervise all medical provision for academy player’s (PDP, YDP & FDP)As the Head of Academy Medical, your main responsibility will be providing the provision of physiotherapy for the U21’s squad at Charlton Athletic Football Club.In this role you will also be responsible for managing all academy therapists and assisting the Head of Academy Sports Science and Medicine with all aspects of medical provision within the Academy for age groups U9-U21’sManage all aspects of the Academy and provide an integral and efficient service to the Medical Department.To be prepared to work weekends as per football schedule.RESOURCES MANAGEMENTManagement responsibility for: U18’s Physiotherapist, 9’s-16’s physiotherapist, Match-day medical staff (Paramedics / Doctor), Academy Doctor, Casual pitch side therapists, Interns and studentsReports to: Head of Medical & Academy DirectorKEY RESPONSIBILITIESManagement of InjuriesTo lead the provision of physiotherapy services across the academy, ensuring effective management of all YPD, PDP and FP players.Assess, diagnose, treat and rehabilitate all injuries sustained by U21 players & where applicable U18 Academy players;·To standardise the management of injuries by assisting in the development and structure of injury rehabilitation guidelines.Keep the First Team Head of Medical informed of all medical/injury concerns regarding Academy players (Email and in person meeting once per week).Following discussion with Head of Medical, arrange and attend specialist appointments/radiology exams with injured U21s players;Injury Prevention / ScreensDesign and implement a thorough pre-season screening programme to successfully obtain baseline data used for the production and distribution of individualised corrective programmes to all players screened. Data obtained must be analysed and used as objective markers post injury to ensure a safe and effective RTT and RTC.Assist with the delivery of injury prevention strategies to all academy players with key focus on the 21’s & U18’s age group.To work alongside the Strength & Conditioning/Sport Science team to deliver effective recovery and injury prevention strategies across all age groups.To ensure all players are educated on the importance of recovery.To oversee injury prevention to the PDP, YDP & FP program ensuring implementation of injury prevention strategies to individual team group sessions.Pre-signing Medicals/Medical ConsultationsTo lead and coordinate the pre-signing medical assessments of all Academy players as required.To produce the pre-signing medical report for first team players when the Head of Medical Services or First Team Physiotherapist is absent or on leave.Medical stock & suppliesTo assist the Academy Doctor in ensuring all medical emergency equipment and medication is well stocked and up to date.To be responsible for the monitoring and management of medical consumable stock and distribution of ‘run-on’ bags to part-time physiotherapy staff;Cardiac screeningTo assist the Academy Doctor in ensuring all cardiac screens completed within the recommended timeframe, follow-ups attended to and all appointments / screens are organised well in advance to players are eligible for training and match-day availabilityMedical Provision at Matches/Training Sessions/ToursAttend all U21 matches, including provision of pitch-side cover and day to day management of the U21s Squad.To work in conjunction with the Academy Physiotherapist for provision of all physiotherapy duties associated with the Academy, U9-U16 teams;Assist the academy physiotherapist in the coordination of part-time physiotherapy cover for youth tournaments, friendlies, weekend matches and academy tours;Inform Academy Director / U18s Coaches of player availability on each training day and send an injury update to all coaches once per week.Medical record keeping & injury audits:Complete a detailed injury audit for the U21’s two times per season (Mid-season & End of season).Keep daily records of treatments and record injuries on the PMA system along with detailed rehabilitation programmes for injured players.Ensure all academy players medical files are kept up to date and stored securely for legal requirement of time.Medical department management:To ensure the FA whereabouts information is correct in conjunction with the Head of Medical and relevant administrative staff with regards to players from the Academy.Obtain permission, except in cases of emergency, from the Head of medical for any pre-notification of outside medical services for all Academy team players.Ensure all protocols and EAP’s are updated and strictly followed to ensure a safe and efficient process when faced with any possible medical scenario.EAP’s will need to be produced in line and signed off by Academy Doctor (EPPP requirement)To be an active member of the Academy Management Team contributing to all medical related discussions within arranged AMT meetings (AMT)Attend all, wherever possible, daily, and monthly medical meetings as and when arranged.Maintain treatment facilities at the Training Ground ensuring the are professional and clean;CPD:Take on responsibility for organising the department’s in-service training programme, for casual/part-time medical staff in conjunction with the Head of Academy Sports ScienceAttend all, whenever possible, medical meetings; internal CPD events and MDT meetings arranged by the club.Attend external courses where possible and to present content of course to medical staff on return to the Club. Permission to be obtained from Head of Medical prior to applying for any course;Assist in the organisation of the club’s in-service training programme for both full and part-time medical staff.
