Job Description
Cambridge University Association Football Club (CUAFC), founded in 1856, is the oldest football club in the world. We have three men’s teams, all of which compete in the British Universities & College Sport (BUCS) league and associated cup competition. For 2026/27, the Men’s 2s, named the Falcons, will compete in BUCS Tier 4, and will aim for promotion, as well as a strong cup run, and a win in Varsity, the annual match against Oxford 2s (Centaurs). This match has been contested for well over half a century.

Where appropriate, we practise squad fluidity between all three teams, in order to allow for player progression and team success. The Falcons, a prestigious and historic side, is comprised of hard-working and ambitious players looking to forge success on the pitch as an enjoyable break from their studies.

Session schedule: Two training sessions (Monday and Friday) and one game (Wednesday) per week.

Job Purpose:

Key Responsibilities:
• Plan and deliver structured and productive training sessions and drills.
• Develop individual and team performance strategies, including technical, tactical, and physical conditioning.
• Prepare students for BUCS league and cup competitions, Varsity, and other relevant events.
• Provide mentorship and motivation to students, fostering a positive and disciplined training culture.
• Collaborate with other coaches, university sports staff, and club committee members to align training with club objectives.
• Uphold standards for safeguarding, inclusivity, and health and safety, ensuring a welcoming environment for all participants.
• Ensure adherence to safety protocols, including risk assessments and injury prevention measures.
• Maintain equipment and ensure proper usage during training sessions.
• Adhere to club policies and procedures.
• Stay up to date with coaching best practices and relevant qualifications.

Person Specification:

Essential:
• Recognised football coaching qualifications (Level 2 or higher).
• Experience of coaching football to young adults or university-level athletes.
• Strong communication, motivational and leadership skills.
• Ability to plan and deliver progressive training programmes.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations in sports coaching.
• Commitment to inclusivity and student development.

Desirable:
• Experience coaching competitive university teams.
• A valid first aid certificate (or willingness to obtain one).

What we offer:
• An induction to the role.
• Opportunities for relevant development and training.
• Support to understand and adhere to relevant club policy.
• A state-of-the-art 3G stadium pitch as a home matchday and training ground (Grange Road Stadium, Cambridge).
• The opportunity to lead a prestigious team into Varsity, a historic sporting fixture.
• A regular point of contact for support.
• The chance to make a meaningful impact on young, motivated student/athletes.
