Job Description
The Opportunity

British Rowing and the UK Sports Institute have an exciting opportunity for a full time Senior physiotherapist to work with the Olympic Men’s squad at the GB Rowing Team (GBRT) National Training Centre (NTC) in Caversham, Reading. We are seeking an experienced practitioner who has worked extensively with high performance sporting teams.
You will be an integral and valued member of a closely-knit high-performance team, collaborating with coaches specialised in rowing and strength & conditioning, and support personnel spanning various science and medicine roles. Together our goal is to assist rowers in achieving podium success on the global stage.

The GBRT has a phenomenal track record of performance at the highest levels of Olympic and Paralympic sport and is seeking an exceptional physiotherapist to form part of the core daily delivery team towards the LA 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.
Location:

British Rowing functions out of a bespoke NTC in Caversham (near Reading) where athletes can train both on the water and on land whilst receiving World Class Coaching and Support Services. Due to the nature of the role, delivery will be in person to meet the needs of the sport.

Role requirements:

A typical week would be Monday to Friday with a half day on Wednesday and rotations within the physiotherapy team supporting one Saturday every three weeks when at the NTC. There is also international travel for camps and competitions associated with this role. This will be approximately 80 days spread throughout the year, generally in blocks of 13-16 days. We utilise the High-Performance Centre at the Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre (near Marlow) for some Strength and Conditioning sessions as well as specialist physiotherapy and rehabilitation services.

GBRT Vision:

A world leading Olympic and Paralympic nation which inspires and creates opportunities for anyone capable of delivering or supporting success to realise their dreams regardless of background.

GBRT Mission:

To deliver a programme which consistently produces gold medal success and creates the environment where athletes and staff thrive.
British Rowing takes pride in the tradition of success that it has created through the development and performances of athletes on the world stage.

A snapshot of the role

This is an exciting opportunity to work within one of Great Britain’s most successful sporting teams. Reporting to the Olympic Head Coach - Men and GBRT Athlete Health MSK lead you will have the opportunity to lead on all aspects of prehabilitation and performance preparation throughout training and competition alongside world class MSK athlete health management to maintain training adherence across the group.

You will play a significant role in designing, executing, and assessing physical health services - in collaboration with the coaching team - to support athletes to consistently deliver world-class performances. For you to succeed you will bring enthusiasm, creativity and energy to the role and have a genuine desire to help athletes achieve their performance aspirations.

We are looking for a highly experienced and suitably qualified practitioner who can work collaboratively in a high-performance environment within an interdisciplinary support team. It is important to be accessible, approachable, and visible in this role.
What makes joining British Rowing and the UKSI compelling?

This is your opportunity to work within one of Great Britain’s most successful sporting teams by shaping the future of the rowers looking to succeed at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. Not only will you be well supported within the GBRT NTC, but you will have technical leadership from UKSI Athlete Health staff for your continued professional development.

The GBRT sports science and medicine team align our work to the GBRT “What it Takes to Win” model that has a holistic approach to developing people.
