The Government has today launched comprehensive review on the future of National Lottery Good Causes funding, National Lottery Good Causes: Fund What Matters to You.
Since 1994, The National Lottery has generated over £53 billion for good causes across the UK, funding elite and grassroots sport, cultural institutions and local community projects.
The review will explore where future investment can have the greatest impact and how funding can become more accessible to communities across the UK.
The UK-wide Call for Evidence will run for 12 weeks and include engagement with the public, National Lottery distributors, grant recipients and community organisations.
On the announcement of the public consultation Nick Webbon, UK Sport Chair, said;
“We are incredibly proud of the great British success story brought about by National Lottery funding into Olympic and Paralympic sport and major events.
“It has helped deliver more than 1,000 Olympic and Paralympic medals and counting, creating extraordinary moments that inspire the nation and keep Team GB and ParalympicsGB among the world's leading sporting nations.
“National Lottery backed major events also deliver significant economic and community benefits, bringing people together, creating careers and volunteering opportunities and leaving a lasting legacy across all four corners of the UK.
“From the Women’s Rugby World Cup, which smashed attendance records and helped transform the visibility of women’s sport, to Birmingham 2022, which contributed almost £1.2 billion to the UK economy, these events deliver impact far beyond the field of play.
“Just as importantly, all of this is powered by the unwavering support of the British public. Our athletes, from every background and every part of the UK, rely on that support and take immense pride in representing the nation every time they compete on the world stage.
“We welcome this opportunity led by Government to protect and build on the Lottery’s legacy and encourage the public to have their say.”
