Founded in 1883, Stockport County are one of the country’s longest established football clubs. Initially formed as Heaton Norris Rovers, the Club officially became Stockport County in 1890 after the County Borough of Stockport and have been based at Edgeley Park since 1902.
The team currently competes in Sky Bet League One, the third tier of the English Football League, after winning the 2023–24 Sky Bet League Two title.


Role Overview:

A fantastic opportunity has arisen within the Grounds Maintenance department at Stockport County Football Club. We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Grounds person to join our team, responsible for executing and maintaining an elite pitch maintenance programme across all club sites.
This full-time role, comprising of 40 hours per week, will encompass evening, weekend, and match-day commitments. We are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable individual who is prepared to meet the dynamic demands of both the position and the broader needs of the organisation. We are looking for candidates who are not only technically proficient but also demonstrate a passion for groundskeeping and a commitment to excellence. This opportunity is open to UK/EU residents and non-residents with a valid UK work permit.

Job Purpose:

Reporting directly to the Head Groundsman, this role is primarily based at the SCFC Carrington training centre, with additional responsibilities at our stadium Edgeley Park. As a key member of our grounds maintenance team, you will be instrumental in the upkeep and enhancement of both stadium and training pitches.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the Head groundsman and grounds team in the preparation, presentation and maintenance of all playing surfaces and football pitches at both the training ground and Stadium to the standards required by the Football Authorities.
• Ensure all areas are maintained and kept to the highest professional and industry standards.
• Undertake all grounds management duties including but not limited to cutting, mowing, line marking, aerating, devoting, fertiliser and sand application, strimming and rotary mowing, and grooming of pitch surfaces.
• Spray pitches and surfaces.
• Drive ride-on mowers, tractors and use all associated attachments and implements responsibly, verti-draining and multi-coring.
• Keep surrounding areas and ground storage areas maintained and tidy.
• Adapt to varying work schedules, including evenings, weekends, and match days, to meet the club's needs.
• Wear any personal protective equipment provided, and comply with all Health and Safety guidelines, working in a manner not to cause injury or harm to yourself or anyone else, or the property of the Club.

Skills & Experience Required

• NVQ Level 2 or equivalent desirable
• Experience within a similar role with 2 years experience.
• Spraying certificates PA1, 2 and 6 is desirable but not essential.
• Previous experience using a wide range of turf care equipment including tractor and 3-point linkage attachments.
• Experience with pitch lighting equipment.
