Men’s Lead Strength & Conditioning Coach

Department: Sport Science & Medicine (SS&M)

Reports to: Clinical Director

Location: The Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton, and other venues

Contract: Full time, permanent

Hours: Minimum 40 hours per week, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays as required

Salary: £38,500 - £43,500 per annum

About the opportunity

Everyone here at Somerset is excited to welcome a Men’s Lead Strength & Conditioning Coach who can make a meaningful impact on the physical performance, preparation and development of our senior men’s playing squad.

This is a fantastic opportunity to plan, programme and deliver a high-performance strength and conditioning service in a professional cricket environment, helping players prepare, perform and progress throughout the demands of the season.

You will also play a key role in the wider men’s strategy and pathway delivery, working closely with the Boy’s Pathway Strength and Conditioning Coach to support developing athletes as they progress towards professional cricket.

What you’ll be doing

Sounds rewarding, right? In this role, you will use your experience, skills and knowledge to:

Plan and deliver bespoke strength and conditioning programmes aligned to the cricket calendar, individual player goals and role-specific performance needs.

Work closely with the Clinical Director, physiotherapy, coaching and wider SS&M teams to manage player progress, injury rehabilitation, return-to-performance plans, workload data and performance screenings.

Provide training and match day support, including player preparation, warm-ups, emergency care input, nutrition and hydration support, and performance development activity.

Maintain professional and operational standards through CPD, audit contribution, budget input, equipment management and collaboration with nutrition and supplementation providers in line with UKAD and ECB requirements.

What we’re looking for

Useful tip: we will review and score applications against the criteria below, so please make sure your application clearly shows how you meet them.

A postgraduate qualification in Strength and Conditioning, or equivalent experience.

UKSCA accreditation, or currently working towards it.

Demonstrable experience delivering high-performance strength and conditioning programmes in a professional sporting environment.

Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to educate, influence and support athletes and colleagues.

Ready to make an impact?

If you are passionate about physical performance, thrive in a professional sporting environment and want to help shape the development of Somerset’s men’s players, we would love to hear from you.
