The Role

At Somerset County Cricket Club, we are proud to stand at the forefront of the women’s game as one of the ECB’s Tier 1 professional teams, leading the way in shaping the future of domestic cricket. With a rich heritage, a passionate fan base, and a commitment to excellence, Somerset is more than a club, it is a community where players, staff, and supporters come together to achieve special memories together.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Women’s Head Coach to join our professional cricket team. This is an incredibly exciting time to join us as we invest in the growth of our women’s programme, nurture homegrown talent, and build a high-performance environment that inspires the next generation. As part of Somerset CCC, you will not only be contributing to success on the field, but also helping to shape the culture and direction of women’s cricket within one of the most ambitious and respected clubs in the country.

The role's main purpose is to oversee the day-to-day operations of coaching staff and female players within the Somerset County Cricket Club’s women’s programme. This role is crucial to creating an environment that will allow our Tier 1 women’s team to thrive and be at the forefront of women’s domestic cricket as well as developing homegrown talent, aligning pathway programs to the strategic goals of the club, and helping to contribute to the overall success of Somerset County Cricket Club.

The role requires strategic leadership to create a positive, high-performance team environment that promotes professional development and discipline, while shaping a strong team culture in partnership with players and staff. You will oversee all aspects of competition and performance, working closely with the Sports Science & Medicine staff to optimise player workload and performance, and leading the team in ECB competitions with a focus on achieving success on and off the field.

In addition, you will be responsible for leading and supporting assistant and consultant coaches, setting and maintaining high standards of coaching and player development. This includes designing and delivering targeted training programmes and implementing tailored individual development plans. The role also requires close collaboration with key stakeholders to enhance player health and wellbeing, drive recruitment, and support the smooth integration of talented players into the squad. Alongside this, you will oversee logistics and lead a dynamic, innovative environment that both supports and challenges players and staff, driving the team towards sustained success.

About You

Amongst other essential criteria, you'll need to hold a minimum ECB Level 3 coaching qualification or international equivalent, with a proven coaching philosophy that has successfully developed players into high performers, progressing to professional or international levels. You will have extensive experience tailoring coaching to diverse athletes, understanding the unique dynamics of women’s cricket, and collaborating effectively with performance analysts, sports science, and support staff to enhance player development and team performance. Strong skills in planning long-term player development, designing effective training sessions, and utilising data and video analysis to inform decisions are essential, alongside proven leadership qualities that inspire and shape a positive team culture.

To thrive in this role, you will demonstrate high standards of integrity and professionalism, fostering a positive team culture through strong interpersonal and communication skills. You’ll be resilient and adaptable, capable of managing the pressures of a high-profile sporting environment and responding effectively to the ever-changing demands of professional sport, while maintaining effective relationships both within the team and with external stakeholders.

You will need to be eligible to work in the UK.

In return, you'll be joining a team who values everyone's contribution. You'll receive a competitive salary, access to health benefits and employee assistance programme, continued professional development support, free parking and more.
