Job Description
BACKGROUND

Playing at the iconic 51,700 seat Ibrox Stadium and benefitting from a world-class 37-acre training facility, the club has been a leading light in Scottish, British and European football for decades.

The club benefits from a famously loyal support and the high volume of season ticket uptake means the club features in the top 19 average attendances in Europe. It is estimated that Rangers has a global fanbase of 4m, half of which are based in the UK.

JOB TITLE: Head Women's & Girls' Physiotherapist
REPORTING LINE: Head of Medical
DEPARTMENT: Women's & Girls'

THE ROLE
The Head Women's & Girls' Physiotherapist leads and delivers physiotherapy services across the full Women's & Girls' pathway, from First Team to Girls Academy, ensuring consistent clinical standards, excellent player welfare and effective return-to-play outcomes. The role is the clinical lead for the Women's First Team, with accountability for the quality and continuity of physiotherapy. Working as part of a multidisciplinary performance team, the role shapes injury prevention strategy, oversees medical data and reporting, and ensures the Women's & Girls' programme benefits from evidence-informed physiotherapy practice at every stage.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Physiotherapy Strategy and Clinical Standards
Lead the development, delivery and continuous review of physiotherapy services across the Women's & Girls' pathway, from First Team to Girls' Academy, ensuring consistent clinical standards, a unified treatment philosophy and evidence-informed practice at every level.

2. First Team Physiotherapy
Act as clinical lead for the Women's First Team physiotherapy service, overseeing injury assessment and differential diagnosis, individualised treatment planning, squad-based prevention strategies, rehabilitation, return-to-play, and pitch-side medical cover for all training sessions and matches. Lead the planning and coordination of all external clinical services including MRI scans, specialist consultations and surgical appointments.

3. Line Management and Academy Oversight
Line-manage the Women's & Girls' Physiotherapists, providing clinical supervision, mentorship and performance oversight, and ensuring the Girls' Academy receives consistent, high-quality physiotherapy support. Review injury trends, loading data, maturation information and development risks across the Academy, and provide clinical quality assurance on assessment, treatment, rehabilitation progression and documentation.

4. Medical Data, Reporting and National Team Duties
Lead injury surveillance and medical data management for the Women's & Girls' programme, producing regular injury audits, return-to-play statistics and performance reports for the Head of Medical and senior staff. Take personal responsibility for Fitness for Duty reporting for all First Team players called up to national squads, ensuring accurate and timely medical information is provided to the Scottish FA.

5. Multidisciplinary Collaboration
Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary performance meetings, sports medicine reviews and departmental planning sessions, ensuring physiotherapy services are aligned with the wider performance strategy. Communicate clearly and proactively with players, coaches and senior staff on injury status, return-to-play timelines and performance implications.

6. Operational and Professional Standards
Maintain operational standards across treatment environments, equipment and medical supplies, ensuring clinical spaces are safe and compliant. Uphold high standards of safeguarding, player welfare and youth development compliance, and commit to ongoing CPD while actively supporting the professional development of physiotherapy staff within the programme.

THE CANDIDATE
Qualifications
Essential:
Degree in Physiotherapy (BSc or equivalent). Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (MCSP). Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Valid PVG Scheme membership (Children and Protected Adults). Eligible to work in the UK.

Desirable:
Postgraduate qualification in sports physiotherapy or musculoskeletal physiotherapy. FA or SFA emergency aid or pitch-side trauma management certification.

Professional Experience
Essential:
Demonstrable experience as a physiotherapist in full-time professional football or elite sport. Experience of managing or supervising physiotherapy staff. Experience working with female athletes and/or young athletes in a high-performance environment.

Technical Knowledge & Expertise
Expert knowledge of injury assessment, differential diagnosis, rehabilitation and return-to-play protocols. Sound understanding of the physical development and maturation needs of female athletes, including growth-related injury risk. Familiarity with injury surveillance systems and medical data platforms. Proficient in Microsoft Office and document storage platforms (e.g. SharePoint, Dropbox). Sound understanding of safeguarding principles in a sports environment.

Management & Leadership Capability
Experience of line-managing staff, including conducting performance reviews and supporting CPD. Ability to plan and prioritise clinical and operational demands in a fast-paced football environment.

Interpersonal & Communication Skills
Clear and effective communicator with players, coaches, medical staff and senior leadership. Collaborative approach to multidisciplinary teamwork. Sensitive and professional approach to player welfare, particularly with young and female athletes. Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends, in line with fixture schedules.
