REMIT:
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified physiotherapist to join an elite sporting environment to lead the injury management and rehabilitation of Transition players (Age 18-23) within the Senior squad. Northampton Saints has an established record of developing young players and providing them with First Team playing opportunities during the early years of their career. These players are fully integrated into the senior training programme and accordingly, this Physiotherapist role is central to the development of these athletes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Core
• To collaborate with Academy, Strength & Conditioning and Coaching staff to ensure the development of robust, high-performing young rugby athletes.
• Detailed planning of day-day management of all Transition group players.
• To lead on the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of acute injuries of Transition group players.
• To contribute to assessment, diagnosis and treatment of other senior squad players as is required.
• Active contribution to the development and delivery of rehabilitation and return-to-play strategies for injured players.
• To provide matchday medical cover pitch side as is required.
• To provide medical cover in all training situations as is required.
• Appropriate organisation of medical equipment for training and matchday.
• To travel with team as is required and whilst doing so, to contribute towards the collective effort preparing the team for competition.
• Detailed and timely communication & collaboration with all members of the Performance and coaching group regarding the management of players.
• Consistent communication with external medical teams to ensure continuity of management for Saints players out on loan.
• Provide day-day support to other members of the medical team regarding injury/rehabilitation matters.
• Contribute fully to department housekeeping.
• Maintenance of accurate medical records in accordance with CSP & HCPC regulations.
• To work with the Lead Academy Physiotherapist to deliver detailed and thorough integration of Transition group players from Junior Academy into Full-time environment.

CPD & Development

• Assist with and contribute to in-house CPD, stay up to date with current best practice. Look for opportunities to conduct novel research with performance impact outcome for Northampton Saints.
• To contribute to weekly planning meeting for medical staff.
• To contribute to Student supervision within the department as is required.
• To contribute to regular in-house pitch side medical management & extrication training.
• Maintain own PhICIS qualification.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

Essential Skills:
• BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy (or equivalent)
• Registration with HCPC/CSP
• PHICIS level 3 or equivalent qualification
• The successful applicant will be required to complete an enhanced disclosure check
• Current and valid driving licence
• Experience of managing injuries in a sporting context
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
• A strong desire to learn and develop your own practice

Desirable Skills:

• Have attained or are working towards post-graduate qualifications in either Physiotherapy, Sports Medicine, Strength & Conditioning, or a related field
• Experience of rehabilitating athletes in a professional sports environment
