Coach Core Apprenticeship
Working Pattern: 30 hours per week including evening and weekend work
Contract Type: 15-month apprenticeship starting September 2026
Salary: £12,480
Reports to: Education and Employability Manager
Location: Southlands Community and Sports Hub

Job Outline:
We’re looking for someone who’s passionate about making a real difference through sport, education and positive role modelling. You don’t need to know everything from day one, we’re looking for the right attitude, a willingness to learn and a desire to help others.
At the Foundation we are committed to living and embedding our core values (quality, inspire, teamwork, inclusion and honesty and integrity), in how we deliver our activity and interact with our partners and colleagues.

You’ll be someone who:
•Cares about helping children and participants reach their potential, especially those who may need extra support
•Wants to make a positive impact in schools and local communities through sport, physical activity and education
•Enjoys leading activities, engaging with people and creating fun, inclusive experiences
•Can build positive relationships and inspire others by being a great role model
•Understands the importance of keeping children safe and is committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. (An Enhanced DBS check will be required)
•Communicates confidently, whether you’re speaking to children, teachers, parents or colleagues, and can adapt your approach to suit different people
•Is organised, reliable and motivated to achieve goals while always looking for ways to improve

•A genuine enthusiasm for learning, embracing opportunities and developing your skills
•A positive attitude, strong teamwork skills and the confidence to step outside your comfort zone
•Experience coaching, volunteering, leading activities or working with children and participants

Essential
• Ability to communicate well with a
range of participants, in particular
children and participants
• Ability to work independently as well
as part of a team
• Good verbal and written
communication
• You’re confident with technology,
can use tools like Word and Excel,
and you’re happy picking up new
apps and systems as part of the role

Desirable
• UKCC Level 1 Coaching qualification
or equivalent (willing to work
towards Level 2)
• Full driving licence with ability to
work/visit a variety of locations other
than immediate workplace on a
regular basis
• Qualification and/or experience in
specialised subjects of numeracy,
literacy and/or PSHE

No prior coaching experience is required, but a willingness to learn, work hard and challenge yourself is essential.

Safeguarding

Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation and Middlesbrough Football Club are fully committed to the safeguarding and welfare of children, young people, young players, and adults at risk.
Promoting safeguarding and welfare of participants and staff is everyone’s responsibility and staff and volunteers are expected to share this commitment. This post falls within the scope of ‘regulated activity’ and is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974). Successful applicants will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service (formerly CRB) check and are required to declare any convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings that are not ‘protected’ as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exemptions) Act 1975. The successful applicant will not be able to start working for the Foundation until the DBS check has been completed.
The Foundation will also seek the successful candidate’s consent for obtaining two written references and to ask for documentary proof of qualifications and right
to work in the UK. Any offer of employment will be conditional on these being satisfactory.
Once in post, all new staff will receive a comprehensive safeguarding induction from our DSO
