About Kokoro

Kokoro Performance works with high-performance athletes and teams to deliver evidence-led physical preparation, performance development, and athlete support. Our work combines applied sports science, strength and conditioning, performance analytics, and individualised coaching to help athletes perform consistently under pressure.

We are seeking a Lead Sports Science & Strength and Conditioning Coach to join Kokoro in a full-time capacity, with a primary focus on supporting motorsport athletes through 1-to-1 training, remote and in-person development programmes, regular assessment, performance data analysis, structured reporting, and athlete support during travel where required.

Role Overview
The Lead Sports Science & S&C Coach will be responsible for designing, delivering, and managing individualised physical performance programmes for motorsport athletes. This role will combine hands-on coaching with applied sports science, athlete monitoring, data analysis, and high-quality reporting.

The successful candidate will work directly with athletes across gym-based training, movement preparation, conditioning, recovery, assessment, and performance planning. They will also be responsible for building and managing athlete development programmes that can be delivered both remotely and in person, ensuring athletes receive clear, consistent, and measurable support throughout the season.

At times, the role will require travel to different locations around the world to support athletes during training camps, race weeks, events, assessments, and other performance-related commitments.

This is a senior applied role requiring excellent coaching standards, strong technical knowledge, confidence with performance data, and the ability to communicate clearly with athletes, coaches, parents, teams, and internal Kokoro staff.

Key Responsibilities
Athlete Coaching and Programme Delivery:
Deliver high-quality 1-to-1 strength and conditioning sessions for motorsport athletes.
Design and implement individualised physical development plans based on athlete needs, competition demands, testing data, and performance goals.
Coach athletes across strength, power, mobility, conditioning, movement quality, injury risk reduction, recovery, and physical readiness.
Adapt training plans around race calendars, travel schedules, fatigue, injury status, and athlete availability.
Provide clear technical coaching, feedback, and education to athletes in person and remotely.
Travel nationally and internationally when required to support athletes at training camps, race events, assessments, or other performance-related activities.

Motorsport Athlete Development
Build structured development programmes specifically suited to the demands of motorsport.
Support athletes in areas including neck strength, trunk control, aerobic and anaerobic conditioning, heat tolerance, reaction capacity, fatigue resistance, mobility, recovery, and race-week readiness.
Develop long-term physical preparation plans aligned with athlete age, training history, competition level, and performance objectives.
Ensure training plans are practical, progressive, measurable, and appropriate for both elite and developing athletes.

Remote and In-Person Programme Management:
Create and manage remote training plans for athletes using appropriate coaching platforms, communication tools, and tracking systems.
Provide regular check-ins, programme updates, and feedback to athletes training remotely.
Ensure athletes understand session objectives, exercise execution, progression targets, and monitoring requirements.
Maintain a high standard of athlete engagement, accountability, and support across remote delivery.

Testing, Assessment and Monitoring:
Conduct regular physical assessments to evaluate athlete readiness, development, and performance progression.
Use appropriate assessment methods across strength, power, endurance, mobility, movement competency, recovery status, and sport-specific physical qualities.
Track athlete progress over time and use assessment results to inform programme decisions.
Maintain accurate records of assessment outcomes, training loads, subjective wellness, and performance markers.

Data Analysis and Reporting:
Analyse performance data to identify trends, risks, development priorities, and programme effectiveness.
Translate data into practical coaching decisions and clear athlete recommendations.
Produce structured monthly reports for each athlete, summarising progress, training adherence, assessment results, key insights, and next-step priorities.
Communicate performance findings clearly to athletes, internal staff, and relevant stakeholders.
Support Kokoro’s broader approach to data-informed athlete development.

Travel and Event Support:
Travel with athletes when required to provide in-person performance support at locations around the world.
Support athletes during race weeks, training camps, testing days, and performance events.
Adapt training, recovery, warm-up, mobility, and readiness strategies around travel demands, time zone changes, facilities, climate, and event schedules.
Maintain professional standards and represent Kokoro appropriately when working with athletes, teams, families, and external stakeholders in different environments.

Leadership and Standards:
Act as a senior practitioner within Kokoro’s performance team.
Help shape and maintain best-practice standards across S&C delivery, assessment, athlete monitoring, and reporting.
Contribute to the development of Kokoro’s performance systems, testing protocols, and athlete development frameworks.
Mentor or support other coaches where required.
Represent Kokoro professionally in all athlete, parent, team, and partner interactions.

Key Requirements

UKSCA accreditation, NSCA CSCS, BASES accreditation, or equivalent professional certification.
Experience with athlete management systems, performance dashboards, GPS/wearable data, HRV, wellness monitoring, force plates, timing gates, or other testing technologies.
Knowledge of motorsport-specific physical demands, including neck conditioning, heat stress, cognitive fatigue, reaction demands, and race-week preparation.
Experience supporting athletes during international competition, training camps, or event-based travel.
Experience working with youth development athletes as well as senior or professional athletes.
Understanding of rehabilitation-to-performance processes and collaboration with physiotherapists or medical staff.

Person Specification
The ideal candidate will be:
A technically excellent coach with strong interpersonal skills.
Comfortable working independently while contributing to a wider performance team.
Data-informed, but practical and coaching-led in their decision-making.
Highly organised and consistent with planning, communication, and reporting.
Comfortable travelling and operating in different environments with athletes.
Confident building trusted relationships with athletes and stakeholders.
Motivated by long-term athlete development and measurable performance improvement.
Professional, adaptable, and calm in high-performance environments.

What Success Looks Like
Success in this role will be measured by:
High-quality delivery of individualised athlete training programmes.
Consistent athlete progress against agreed physical development goals.
Clear, accurate, and timely monthly reporting for each athlete.
Strong athlete engagement and adherence across remote and in-person programmes.
Effective support for athletes during travel, race weeks, camps, and event environments.
Effective use of assessment and performance data to guide programme decisions.
Positive feedback from athletes, families, teams, and internal Kokoro staff.
Contribution to Kokoro’s performance systems, coaching standards, and athlete development model.
