Finance Business Manager

The role

We are looking for a Finance Business Manager to join our fantastic team at Invictus UK 2027.
The Finance Business Manager will place finance at the centre of decision-making by providing data-driven insight, robust planning and clear communication. They are a strategic advisor and key point of contact, providing check and challenge and support to all Games-focused departments (Commercial, Operations, Sport, & Communications).

About Invictus UK 2027
Invictus UK 2027 is a charity and delivery organisation for Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, taking place in July 2027 at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) and Sandwell Aquatics Centre. Founded by Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex in 2014, the Invictus Games uses adaptive sport to support the recovery of Wounded, Injured, and Sick (WIS) service personnel and veterans.
Birmingham 2027 will bring together 550 competitors from over 25 nations across 12 sports, including Archery, Athletics, Cycling, Esports, Indoor Rowing, Laser Run, Pickleball, Powerlifting, Sitting Volleyball, Swimming, Wheelchair Basketball, and Wheelchair Rugby.
The Games are about more than competition. Success is measured in every step forward, every challenge faced, every barrier overcome. Every throw, stride, and lift is a victory.
Our mission is to celebrate the unconquered spirit of WIS service personnel and veterans, deliver an outstanding Games, and create lasting social impact across Birmingham and the Midlands.
Through our Impact Programme, we will create recovery opportunities for thousands of WIS and their families, while delivering long-term benefits for Birmingham and the West Midlands.
Birmingham sits at the heart of this story, from life-saving care at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham to rehabilitation at the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre and support at Fisher House, with many competitors returning to the place that supported them.

Role Summary

The Finance Business Manager will place finance at the centre of decision-making by providing data-driven insight, robust planning and clear communication. They are a strategic advisor and key point of contact, providing check and challenge and support to all Games-focused departments (Commercial, Operations, Sport, & Communications).

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Business Partnering & Strategic Support
• Serve as the dedicated finance partner to directorates including Operations, Ceremonies, Communications, Commercial & Sport.
• Act as a trusted advisor, supporting decision making through data driven insights, financial modelling, and analytical commentary.
• Build strong relationships with functional leads, ensuring financial understanding and accountability across the organisation.
• Translate financial information into clear, actionable recommendations for both operational teams and senior leadership.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Reporting
• Lead and coordinate reforecasting for assigned directorates.
• Produce timely management reporting including variance analysis, performance dashboards, and narrative insights.
• Support finance input into Executive Leadership Team (ELT), Audit & Risk Committee, and Board papers.
• Identify financial risks and opportunities and support mitigation strategies.
Financial Controls & Operations
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, procurement policies, and delegated authority thresholds.
• Maintain accurate financial records including accruals, prepayments, intercompany allocations, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Support external and internal audits by preparing information, responding to queries, and ensuring readiness.
Commercial & Procurement Support
• Support procurement activity by reviewing financial elements of tenders, evaluating commercial proposals, and assessing supplier financial health.
• Partner with Legal and Procurement colleagues to support contract negotiations and ensure value for money.
• Support sponsorship, grant funding, and revenue reporting where required.
Event Lifecycle Involvement
• Support financial planning and analysis during pre-Games setup, operational ramp up, event time delivery, and post Games closure.
• Contribute to post-Games and dissolution financial planning where required.

Key Relationships
• To work across the assigned directorates, acting as the point of contact for all finance queries.
• To develop good working relationships with key stakeholders within Invictus and our partners.

Person Specification

Qualifications:
Essential
• Qualified accountant (ACA. ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience
Experience
• Experience in finance business partnering or commercial finance roles
• Strong analytical, modelling, and problem solving skills
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to distil complex financial information for non finance stakeholders
• Proven ability to work in fast paced, high pressure environments
Desirable
• Familiarity with procurement processes, contract management, and multi funding environments
• Experience in a similar sized event organisation
• Experience using systems such as Xero, InBudget, Smartsheet, or similar
Skills
Essential
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to deal effectively with people at all work levels
• Collaborative, approachable, and solutions focused
• Proactive with strong organisational skills and attention to detail
• Able to work across diverse teams and adapt to evolving priorities

This is a full time, fixed term role to 31/08/2027.

The salary range for this position is £50,000-60,000 per annum.
This role shall be based at our Birmingham office with regular travel required to the London office and flexible, hybrid working arrangements are available with the Organisation.
