IRL Head of Classification Organisation International Rugby League Salary Remunerated but to be discussed Location Global - remote Contract type (Part time) Closing date 10 July 2026 Job Description IRL is seeking to recruit a Head of Classification for the Classification Advisory Group (CAG).The IRL Head of Classification (‘the Appointee’) role is a leadership function. The Appointee will be responsible for the leadership of the IRL classifiers, including the IRL Chief Classifier. The International Rugby League (IRL) is seeking an experienced individual to leadthe continued growth and development of Physical Disability Rugby League (PDRL) globally as Head of Classification. The Appointee will oversee the development, implementation and integrity of the international classification system and will work collaboratively with member nations and other stakeholders.Principal responsibilities Serve as the senior IRL representative and, if necessary, spokesperson for matters within classification Coordinate IRL classification sessions with the Chief Classifier Regularly report IRL classification activities to CAGDuties / activities Overseeing, in line with the Advisory Group secretary, the successful and timely implementation of tasks agreed by the Group Reviewing, annually, the performance of the IRL Chief Classifier and of the IRL classifiers with the Chief Classifier Organising and coordinating classification sessions in line with the needs of participating nations and within budgetary limitsEssential skills / experience Excellent spoken and written English Liaise with the relevant organiser to ensure that all travel, accommodation, and other logistics are arranged so that IRL classifiers may carry out their duties A thorough understanding of the IRL Classification Manual and classification process Ability to recognise conflicts of interest in the classification process Effective leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and the ability to apply these skills in remote and multi-cultural environments Mentorship skills to provide training or guidance to classifiers Ability to resolve conflictsDesirable skills / experience Professional/governance experience with sport Knowledge of the international sporting landscape, including governmental, non-governmental and omnisport organisations Demonstrable knowledge and experience in administration and management of classification, rules, policy, and procedure development or revision,classification research, classification education and training Experience and continuing participation in training and certification of classifiers, for example, teaching and supervising/mentoring instructors at workshops and other similar activities Demonstrable knowledge and experience in Physical Disability Rugby League and its applicable rules, including the classification rules of the international federation Qualified physiotherapist or doctor with in-depth knowledge of neurological or musculoskeletal conditions (preferable not essential) A minimum number of two years’ experience as a classifier in a para sport (preferably in the same para sport) Completed Activity Alliance Profiling & Classification training or working towards completion Able to classify athletes prior to/during competitions (preferable not essential)SCOPE OF ROLE RESPONSIBILITY The successful applicant will be required to commit to a reasonable number of hours to meet the requirements of this role description As a rough guide (a) the Classification Advisory Group will hold approximately four meetings annually, and (b)the Appointee will organise and coordinate, after liaising with national federations, approximately 10 global classification sessions per year The Appointee will be asked to serve a two-year tem, with the possibility of being re-appointed upon expiry of that term.
