England Athletics is the national governing body for athletics and running in England. England Athletics is a membership organisation with c1,800 member clubs/bodies and c180,000 registered athletes, which exists to provide services and support to its members and to promote and deliver athletics and running activities across all ages, event disciplines, ability levels and aspirations; and to give support to the wider sport where there are more than 6m who run each month in England, 4,433 licensed road races and 207,000 active RunTogether participants operating in more than 3,686 groups.

The Role:

A vacancy has arisen at England Athletics for a Grants Officer within our Operations team. This is an exciting opportunity for an organised and proactive individual to play a key role in supporting the administration, coordination and delivery of grant programmes that help make a positive impact across athletics and running communities.

Working within the Finance team and reporting initially to the Head of Finance, the Grants Officer will provide high-level operational and administrative support across funding activities, partnerships, governance, grants management and reporting. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation to ensure grant programmes are delivered effectively, compliantly and achieve maximum impact.

Key areas for this role will be:






• Grant Programme Management: Lead the administration and operational delivery of designated grant programmes, coordinating application, assessment, moderation and award processes while ensuring programmes are delivered against agreed timelines and milestones.

• Grants Administration & Compliance: Manage grant applications, reporting, evaluation and compliance tracking, ensuring all funding activity meets governance requirements and funding conditions.

• Organisation-wide Grant Coordination: Maintain a central register of grant awards, applications, reporting deadlines and funding commitments, acting as a key point of coordination across departments.

• Governance and Risk: Support the preparation of reports for the Executive Leadership Team, Board and Committees, maintain grant management procedures and monitor compliance with grant terms and conditions.

• Performance and Impact Reporting: Coordinate impact measurement and outcome reporting across funded projects, develop performance dashboards and gather stories that demonstrate the value and impact of grant awards.

• Financial Administration: Assist with budget tracking, financial administration and reporting, ensuring accurate monitoring of funding activity and commitments.

• External Funding Intelligence: Monitor funding opportunities and support departments in developing future funding applications and partnerships.

Person Specification

• Educated to A-Level standard or equivalent.
• Minimum three years' experience in a similar role, ideally within a not-for-profit environment.
• Experience administering grant schemes or funding programmes.
• Experience managing multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
• Strong organisational, communication and project management skills.
• Experience preparing reports and presentations for senior stakeholders.
• Strong Excel and data management skills.
• Understanding of governance, audit and compliance processes.
• Able to work independently while building effective relationships across teams.
• Interest in the sport sector and the positive impact of grant funding
