Job Description
2026 will be a year of renewal and change across British
Fencing (BF) as it seeks to build on its exciting new
strategy. The British Fencing Charitable Fund (BF Charity)
is seeking to strengthen its role to support fencing, with
an initial focus on developing a new fundraising strategy.
The BF Charity is looking to appoint a Chair who will play
a pivotal and inspiring role in shaping the future of the
charity. You will provide strategic leadership to the Board
of Trustees, ensuring the BF Charity remains true to its
mission while driving it forward with energy, clarity and
purpose. Working closely with new and existing trustees
you will create an environment where good governance
thrives, innovative ideas can flourish and the BF Charity’s
impact is continually strengthened.

We are seeking someone who can inspire donors,
champion impactful campaigns, and harness the power
of fencing to make great things happen. If you bring
energy, vision and a talent for turning ideas into action
we would love to welcome you to the team.
We welcome applicants with and without fencing
experience and from a diverse set of backgrounds.

The work of the BF Charity aligns with core elements of the new
British Fencing strategy as follows:

POSITIVE SOCIAL IMPACT
Our objective is to help bring about positive social impact
through fencing. We will do this by supporting partnership
projects designed to explore and deliver wider societal
and community benefits than those traditionally
associated with sport.

INCREASING PARTICIPATION
Our aim is to support the growth of fencing by
broadening its availability, encouraging people of all ages
and backgrounds to take part. We will do this by funding
projects designed to increase accessibility and diversify
participation in a manner that is sustainable and provides
a long-term benefit for the participants and the sport.

TALENT DEVELOPMENT
Our aim is to support the building of strong and
successful GBR athlete pathway programmes and to help
overcome barriers that some young athletes may face.
We do this by providing financial support to talented
disadvantaged athletes that will help them accelerate up
the GBR pathway and to achieve domestic/international
age group success.

Interviews will be held in London. The recruitment process will be supported by the Nominations Committee of British Fencing, and appointments will be subject to approval by the BF Charity Board. The BF Charity supports British Fencing’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for all and is committed to following best practice in the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults. For further information please consult: www.britishfencing.com We want to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to receive clear, understandable information.
