2007 Athlete Survey Full Report
SubscribeThe purpose of this report is to provide an assessment of the climate for Olympic/Paralympic sport in the UK prior to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The research was concerned with obtaining World Class Podium Programme and World Class Development Programme athletes' views on various components of the programmes1 and the purpose of the survey was twofold. First, it continues a series of similar surveys conducted in the Sydney and Athens Olympiads which provides UK Sport with an overview of athletes' opinions on the World Class programmes and their experiences of being an elite athlete. These findings provide a basis on which to improve the World Class system: they also help UK Sport to account to the Department for Culture Media and Sport for the use of Exchequer and Lottery funding. Second, the survey includes a number of questions that relate directly to the new Mission 2012 tracking process, the mechanism being used by UK Sport to measure the progress that national governing bodies (NGBs) are making towards delivering success at London 2012.
