EIS 01 February 2013
Following the success of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the English Institute of Sport (EIS) are looking ahead to Rio 2016 and beyond, hoping to inspire and develop the skills of sport scientists hoping to become part of the team behind the team.
Launching Skills4Performance, the EIS will be hosting the first skills training for elite performance event, covering three sport science disciplines; physiology, nutrition and psychology at a five day residential workshop at the EIS High Performance Centre at Loughborough University, 12-18th April 2013.
Nigel Walker, EIS National Director, said: “A large part of planning for the next cycle and beyond is thinking about the talented pool of sport science and medical practitioners who can make an impact in high performance sport.
“Developing the skills necessary to achieve this doesn’t happen overnight and Skills4Performance is aimed at helping to share EIS practitioner experiences and the skills required to work effectively as part of the team behind the team in performance sport.”
Olympic champions, Performance Directors, leading coaches and the EIS course tutors will deliver a combination of seminars and workshops as well as providing unique insights into the environment of performance sport.
EIS Head of Physiology Dr Steve Ingham, one of the EIS tutors at the event, said: “This is a unique opportunity for developing sport scientists hoping to develop their skill-sets in performance sport.”
“Training in specific practical and personal skills with a unique mix of people across the performance sport landscape delivering sessions, will hopefully give a true insight into working within this field as well as the impact sport science can have.”
The Skills4Performance event is open to 36 applicants, 12 each from the fields of psychology, physiology and nutrition. Attendees will be required to hold or be undertaking a postgraduate degree in their chosen field.
The course costs £550, including accommodation and all meals. Applications require CV, personal statement and recommendation letter only and scholarship places are available.
The deadline for applications is 4th March 2013.
