Para judo at the Paralympic Games was first included at the 1988 Games in Seoul, and is exclusively contested by athletes with vision impairments. Competition follows the same rules as its Olympic equivalent. Judokas must use their sense of touch to anticipate their rival's moves, gripping their opponent's judogi (judo uniform) throughout the entire bout.
Judokas are classified into categories according to the level of their vision impairment, but all three sight classes compete together, divided according to their weight.
