Performance planning: finding the me in we
At last year’s PLx, a panel of coaches / performance directors discussed performance planning, and it was obvious the time, effort and energy required to lead a team in the pursuit of an aspirational goal. They also highlighted that, while it is a collective endeavour, key leaders in the environment can hugely influence its momentum. Within that session, and since, the value of sharing and learning from other leaders has been highlighted as a key component of performance planning done well. In this workshop session we explore how the fundamental principles of performance planning can be used in our individual roles, as a tool to share our experiences, hear from others and hopefully see individual opportunity for action over the next 12 months and beyond.
This session will be interactive. Please come prepared to share your experiences and insights.

An ethical exploration for high-performance leaders, coaches, and practitioners
Coaching practices are complex and nuanced, and a stronger platform for system and practice change requires a greater understanding of the issues involved. Using case-study material and your lived experiences, we hope to raise questions about the ethical by exploring:
- The ethical features of coaching in high-performance sport
- The histories of problematic high-performance culture, unethical practices and ‘relationship breakdown’
- The types of moments or incidents that are most likely to trigger problems in the ‘grey area’ of practice
- How we might rethink or reframe ethical practice in ways that offer us courses of action.

A conversation with the future in mind: insights from the BBC's reimagining of children's programming and a snapshot in time of the diversity of the athlete population
Explore what we know about the diversity of our pathways, understand the barriers to entry and use the BBC’s experience of reimaging children’s programming to learn about how we can communicate with a younger and increasingly more diverse community and their parents.

Exploring staff wellbeing through the challenges of high-performance sport
Using live drama, a series of ‘cautionary tales’ will hold a mirror to some of the common issues we’ve all likely experienced while navigating life in high-performance sport. Using group discussions and practical activities we’ll also explore the possible solutions, so we can better look after ourselves, and those around us, as we continue to develop a thriving sporting system and win well.

Performance planning: from constraints to creativity
Finances, time, resources and changing performance demands are just some of the constraints we need to navigate as part of our performance aspirations. These can seem immovable but, in this session, we’ll share stories of where good performance planning has uncovered new, novel and useful solutions, supported by some key principles that can be applied to any context.

Gendered environments in sport uncovered
Gain a better understanding of how to support female athletes to thrive and perform, by uncovering some of the cultures, historical beliefs and social constructs that influence the environment our female athletes experience during training and competition. To bring this topic to life, we’ll also explore the experiences of retired women athletes, and draw on a recent case study with British Diving to support the practical application of this work.
