The UK Sport International Leadership Programme (ILP) successfully started last week (8-9 June) as 14 talented individuals from across the high-performance community began their training in the flagship programme at the London Stadium.
Since its launch in 2006, there have been 10 cohorts of the ILP, supporting the development of over 120 people. The programme forms a critical part of UK Sport's international relations mission, which is for the UK to positively shape the direction and development of the international sporting system, through its strong voice, ethical approach, and global reputation.
Through tailored modules and personal development, the ILP helps representatives from UK National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and other national partners to build their knowledge, expertise, skills, and relationships to operate effectively in, and make a tangible and positive impact on, the development and governance of international sport.
The 14 individuals taking part in the programme are:
Andrew Heyes, UK Athletics
Andrew Tombs, British Gymnastics
David Kingstone, Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Association
Dr Saam Falahati, British Wrestling
Georgina Reed, British Shooting
Heather Ratnage-Black, British Bobsleigh & Skeleton Association
Helen Marney, British Triathlon
Jason Brisbane, Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby
Jen Thomson, British Rowing
Jim Eyre, British Equestrian Federation
Matthew Holt, GB Boxing
Nick Scott, Royal Yachting Association
Pat Aiyenuro, British Fencing
Verity Naylor, British Paralympic Association
The 2023-24 programme will consist of four residential workshops, each focusing on different themes in international sport, and provide personal development needs through one-to-one sessions with an executive coach.
UK Sport International Relations Advisor, Paul Evans, said: “The International Leadership Programme is now in its eleventh iteration, showing just how important this programme is in its support of the participants to attain, operate and succeed in leadership roles in international sporting organisations.
“I am delighted to announce such a high calibre and experienced set of 14 individuals on this year’s programme, and we look forward to working with them over the next nine months. The programme continues to demonstrate UK Sport’s commitment to growing a thriving sporting system.”
