Lawrence Conway, the current Chair of Sport Wales, has joined the UK Sport Board as Welsh Member.
UK Sport Chair Dame Katherine Grainger said: “I am delighted to welcome Lawrence to the UK Sport Board. Lawrence has enjoyed an outstanding career and will offer a huge amount to the Board as Welsh Member. The ability to draw on his experience and insights will be invaluable. I’d like to welcome him to the team.”
Lawrence Conway was appointed to the Board by the Secretary of state in September for a three-year term. Lawrence joined the civil service in 1968 and had various roles within the Welsh Office. He headed the Welsh Office division of sponsored arms-length bodies including the Welsh Development Agency and became head of the Cabinet Secretariat and First Minister’s Department in 1998, holding that post until his retirement in 2010. Lawrence was awarded the Companion of the Bath in 2012 and has served as Chair of Sport Wales since February 2017.
