Look Ahead to Day 3

Published 10 September 2016

Triathlon makes its Paralympics debut today, with six Brits competing across three categories, judo gets into full swing and the action continues in swimming, cycling, athletics and powerlifting.

Triathlete Andrew Lewis is the World and European Champion and races alongside former England U21 cerebral palsy footballer Ryan Taylor in the PT2 category, with Joe Townsend and Phil Hogg in PT1, and David Hill and George Peasegood in PT4.

Athlete Hannah Cockroft is aiming for three golds in Rio, the first of which could come today in the 100m T34. Great Britain also has three representatives in the men’s 100m T33 with Daniel Bramall, Toby Gold and Andrew Small all making their Paralympic Games debuts, and F20 shot putter Sabrina Fortune is also competing in her first Games.

Fresh from her bronze in the T38 100m final at the Paralympic Stadium last night, Kadeena Cox switches to the velodrome to compete in her second sport and in the track cycling C4-5 500m Time Trial. Cox is the world champion in this event and the favourite, but faces Dame Sarah Storey who has shown she’s on form.

Back in the pool, 17-year-old Alice Tai is up against Sophie Pascoe from New Zealand, who has 10 swimming medals from two Games, in the women’s S10 100m Backstroke. Andrew Mullen is also back in action after winning a bronze on day one, this time competing in the S5 50m Butterfly.

In judo, Sam Ingram, who has a bronze medal from Beijing and a silver from London, will be looking to complete his collection in Rio in the Men’s 90kg category, while Christopher Skelley (Men’s 100kg) and Jack Hodgson (Men’s +100kg) are making their Paralympic debuts.

Former Staff Sergeant in the Royal Engineers and gold medallist at the Invictus Games, Micky Yule, competes in the -65kg in powerlifting, and Matt Skelhon is one of the favourites for the gold medal in the R3 mixed 10m air rifle.

Medal highlights for the day ahead are below (times denoted are BST) and for results and medal table, visit our interactive micro-site #EVERYROADtoRIO Live.
