UK Sport has launched a recruitment drive to select the next cohort for its prestigious and highly valued International Leadership Programme (ILP).
The ILP forms part of UK Sport’s strategy to promote the UK’s sporting interests internationally. The programme aims to develop the knowledge, expertise and skills of representatives from UK National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and other national partners to ensure that the sporting interests of the UK and its representatives are positioned at the forefront of international elite sport.
UK Sport is looking to NGBs to identify suitable candidates for the programme as part of a strategically planned approach to help British NGBs achieve their international relations objectives.
Targeted primarily at international post holders from Olympic and Paralympic sports in the UK, the ILP aims to build upon the strong reputation of the previous six years with competition for places expected to be high. Limited places on the programme will be made available to individuals outside of our supported NGBs and selected national partners whose role demonstrably contributes positively to the UK’s wider relationships in international sport.
Simon Morton, UK Sport’s Director of Major Events & International Relations, said: “The UK has both a responsibility and a strategic interest in developing international sporting leaders. This not only ensures the UK is actively contributing to the international governance of sport, but it also helps us to have a voice on important international decisions.
“The ILP has a proven track record in developing effective international sport administrators, and should be given serious consideration by anyone from the UK who has ambition to contribute to their international sporting federation.”
This ILP year will run from September 2014 through to May 2015, after which participants will join an ever growing and influential alumni. Participants will need to commit to attend four two-day residential training workshops and a final one day ‘graduation’ event over the nine month period and must demonstrate a strong commitment to personal development.
Modules will cover themes including the international sporting landscape, building powerful relationships, negotiating and influencing techniques, cross-cultural working, managing campaigns in sport and communicating effectively with international audiences.
The deadline for nominations for this year’s programme is Friday 11 July. For more information about this year’s programme or how to apply, please contact UK Sport’s International Relations team on email.
