Neil Chugani appointed to UK Sport board

Published 29 April 2014

Helen Grant, Minister for Sport, Tourism & Equalities has appointed Neil Chugani as board member of UK Sport.

Neil Chugani has spent over 20 years in the media and technology industries in senior executive and advisory leadership roles. He currently works with private equity investors and their portfolio companies, most recently having advised CVC Capital Partners on its bid for IMG Worldwide – a leading global business in sports and media. He is also currently serving as Interim Chief Executive Officer of British Rowing.

UK Sport Chair, Rod Carr, said: "I am delighted to welcome Neil Chugani to the UK Sport board.

"He brings with him a wealth of experience in sport and business as we focus on finalising preparations for Rio 2016 and beyond, while striving to build a stronger more sustainable high performance system to benefit the UK for years to come."

Neil Chugani said: "It is an honour to be appointed to the UK Sport Board. UK Sport has changed the face of Olympic and Paralympic sport in the UK since National Lottery and Exchequer funding began and I am excited by the opportunity to make a contribution to UK Sport building on that success.

"I look forward to working with fellow board members on the road to Rio and beyond as we focus on helping the UK’s elite athletes to deliver more inspirational Olympic and Paralympic performances."

Prior to this, Neil held senior positions in the media industry including Group Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director at BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, and several senior executive roles at BSkyB Group plc, including Director of Group & Corporate Finance, Investor Relations & Treasury and Deputy Chief Financial Officer. He was also a banker at Goldman Sachs in London where he advised a number of the firm’s media, technology and private equity clients on a range of transactions. He was selected as a member of the Forum of Young Global Leaders at the World Economic Forum in 2009. Neil started his career at Price Waterhouse, where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant after graduating with an MA from the University of Oxford. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Neil has been actively involved in rowing for over 25 years, both as an athlete and a senior volunteer. He has represented Great Britain as both an Under-23 and senior international, winning a World Championship gold medal in 2001. He has also won the Boat Race with Oxford University, and has represented Leander Club and Molesey Boat Club, where he is still an active member. He was a member of the Organising Committee for the Samsung World Rowing Cup held at Eton Dorney in 2013, is a serving British Rowing Umpire and a Steward of Henley Royal Regatta.

Neil Chugani has been appointed to UK Sport for a term of 3 years, from 1 May 2014 to 30 April 2017.
