Gerry Sutcliffe, Minister for Sport, has announced that Philip Kimberley has been appointed as a Board Member of UK Sport. His term of appointment will run from 16 March 2009 for three years.
Kimberley is currently Non Executive Chairman of England Hockey and a director of Great Britain Hockey. He was previously at England Hockey in an executive capacity, and was responsible for leading the rebuilding of the sport over the past six years. Prior to that he enjoyed a long and successful international general management career with Burmah Castrol Plc, which led to his running Castrol’s Asian businesses.
“Philip brings with him a unique combination of business and hands-on knowledge of sport which will be of huge benefit to us in the run-up to London,” said Baroness Sue Campbell CBE. “I’m delighted to welcome him to Board and look forward to working with him over the next three years.”
Kimberley, who will take his seat on the Board for the first time at the March meeting, said: “I have worked closely with UK Sport over a number of years through my role at England Hockey and my position on the NADO Project Board. To now have the opportunity to be more directly involved during what is arguably the most exciting period in Britain’s sporting history is a great privilege.”
