Sports in the UK are being invited to nominate their rising stars of coaching to take part in a ground-breaking new Elite Coach acceleration programme, co-ordinated by UK Sport.
The structured development programme will cover three core areas of work.
Time will be spent working hands-on with athletes, other coaches and support staff both within a sport and across the network of UK Sports Institute multi-sport sites to develop skills and experience – the Technical Programme.
Bespoke Individual Development Programmes will be designed to accelerate coaches’ development and a Residential Programme will encourage cross-sport interaction/relationships.
The work has been developed following the publication of the Elite Sport (Cunningham) Review in September 2002 which called for an enhanced programme of professional development for coaches.
In the intervening period, UK Sport has worked with the Home Country Sports Institutes, the Performance Directors Forum, British Olympic Association, British Paralympic Association and key partners to jointly develop Elite Coach.
"This is a very exciting, and much needed initiative, which will support the further development of our elite athletes," said Liz Nicholl, Acting Chief Executive and Director of Performance at UK Sport.
"It is for the very best coaches who demonstrate the talent, dedication and determination to succeed and produce outstanding performances."
Sports interested in nominating coaches for Elite Coach should access the two relevant PDF documents linked below for further details.
Nomination submissions close on Friday 4 June and a final selection event will be held on Monday 5 July.
