Job Description
About Health and Wellbeing

Our team works relentlessly to help people improve their physical wellbeing, build confidence and lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.
Through our gym, fitness classes, coaching and wellbeing programmes, we create opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to enjoy movement, develop healthy habits and achieve personal goals. Working with encouragement, expertise and care, we help make health and wellbeing accessible, enjoyable and empowering for our community.

We believe wellbeing is about far more than physical fitness. By meeting people where they are, celebrating progress and creating supportive environments, we help individuals build confidence, resilience and a stronger connection to themselves and others.

If you are passionate about helping people thrive, committed to inclusion and empowerment, and driven by the positive impact that health and wellbeing can have on lives, this is where your work can make life-changing impact.

Job Purpose

Responsible for the planning and effective delivery of a variety of health & fitness classes to a diverse membership, including adults, children, and youth.

Drive member engagement and retention by fostering positive relationships, supporting onboarding, promoting YMCA programmes, and implementing initiatives that enhance satisfaction and loyalty.

Ensure the smooth day-to-day operations of the health & fitness centre, including programme delivery, equipment management, and administrative tasks, maintaining efficiency and compliance with all policies and procedures.

Champion and promote the YMCA’s Christian Core Values — Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility — in all interactions and activities.

Principle Responsibilities

1. Programme Delivery
1.1 Plan & deliver a diverse range of high-quality health and fitness classes within the gym and studio timetable, catering to members of all ages, including children, young people, and adults.
1.2 Supervise open gym use, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and supportive training environment.
1.3 Communicate effectively and coach a variety of skills and movements to individuals and groups of differing abilities and experience levels.
1.4 Contribute to the planning and programming of class workouts to ensure variety, progression, and member engagement.
1.5 Support wider service delivery, including reception duties and youth or community sessions as required.
1.6 Foster a friendly, inclusive, and motivating training environment for all members, adapting sessions to meet diverse needs.

2. Promotion & Member Engagement
2.1 Support marketing initiatives, including social media and digital platforms, to promote services and increase participation.
2.2 Actively engage with members during classes, and events to build positive, professional relationships and foster a welcoming, inclusive environment.
2.3 Support the onboarding of new members, ensuring they feel welcomed, informed, and confident using the facilities.
2.4 Monitor member participation and engagement, proactively following up to encourage continued attendance and identify at-risk members for tailored support.
2.5 Support the development of new initiatives that enhance member satisfaction, loyalty, and long-term retention.
2.6 Gather and act on member feedback, collect testimonials, and use insights to continuously improve the quality of classes, programmes, and overall member experience.
2.7 Maintain an up-to-date working knowledge of the CRM system to be able to make bookings.

3. Ongoing Development
3.1 Commit to continual professional development to enhance coaching knowledge and delivery skills.
3.2 Participate in both internal and external training opportunities.
3.3 Attend regular team meetings and contribute to team discussions.
3.4 Offer constructive ideas and suggestions for service improvements and innovation.

4. Facility Upkeep & Health & Safety
4.1 Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and presentation across all areas of the facility.
4.2 Conduct basic equipment checks and report maintenance issues promptly.
4.3 Provide shift cover as required to ensure continuity of service.
4.4 Maintain professional conduct and appropriate boundaries with members and colleagues.
4.5 Ensure full compliance with health and safety procedures, including incident reporting.
4.6 Adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants
4.7 Maintain a thorough understanding of centre operations, including promotions, memberships, and the roles of other team members.
