Job Description
Service Team: YMCA Newark and Sherwood
Responsible to: Head of Programmes
Location: YMCA Newark & Sherwood
Hours: Flexible with regular evenings and weekends
Salary: £15 per hour

Job Purpose:
• Responsible for the planning, delivery and leadership of engaging football sessions and activities for young people aged 5-17, creating a positive and inclusive environment that encourages participation, enjoyment and skill development.
• Play a key role in supporting participants' physical, emotional and social development through structured football programmes that build confidence, teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship.
• Support the development of an organisational culture that puts our Christian Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility at the centre of all we do, acting as a positive role model for young people and colleagues.

Principal Responsibilities:

Program Development and Delivery:
• Plan and implement age-appropriate football programmes and activities, ensuring a safe, inclusive, enjoyable and fun environment
• Organise and lead sessions ensuring they align to FA minimum operating standards.
• Adapt activities to suit different skill levels, from beginner to advanced participants
• Create a friendly, fun & inclusive environment for all members
• Ensure the safe delivery of activities and that all H&S protocols are followed

Coaching and Mentoring:
• Provide positive and constructive feedback to improve children and youth’s confidence, and self-discipline
• Act as a role model and mentor, promoting fair play, sportsmanship, and team spirit
• Foster a welcoming and supportive environment for children of all abilities

Safety and Supervision:
• Ensure the safety and well-being of participants by adhering to best practices and safety guidelines during all activities
• Keep Management informed of any accidents/incidents, and to report any situation, which may be a Health & Safety hazard
• Supervise children and youth during activities and resolving any conflicts or issues that arise and promote a safe and inclusive environment.
• Provide first aid when necessary and ensure that all accidents or incidents are reported
• Ensure familiarity with all aspects of the YMCA Newark and Sherwood operations including promotions, memberships, and other job roles
• Maintain professionalism and professional boundaries with both staff and members

Ongoing Development:
• Actively engage in continual learning to improve coaching and leadership skills and delivery
• Take part in in-house and external trainings
• Attend membership meetings as required (communicated in advance)
• Feedback to help drive programme/delivery standards.

Requirements:

Experience
1.1 Experience of planning and delivering football activities and sessions/programmes.
1.2 Practical experience of delivering activities to children and youth.
1.3 Practical experience of working with members with disabilities. (Desirable)

Education/Training/Qualifications
2.1 Good level of education (literacy, IT, and numeracy)
2.2 Hold a recognised football coaching qualification – Minimum FA Level 1 in Coaching Football (essential)
2.3 Safeguarding Children & Young People qualification (desirable)
2.4 First Aid at Work (if not currently held, qualification must be gained within 3 months of employment).

Skills & Abilities
3.1 Ability to deliver age-appropriate activity sessions confidently and effectively
3.2 Excellent communication skills.
3.3 Friendly, approachable and enthusiastic.
3.4 Punctual with good time management and organisational skills.
3.5 Ability to work and contribute to a team and be comfortable working on your own.

Other work-related requirements
4.1 Ability to support the Christian core values of the Association
4.2 Willingness to undergo a satisfactory enhanced DBS check and to register with the DBS Update Service OR hold a satisfactory enhanced DBS check for the correct workforce plus existing registration for the DBS Update Service
4.3 Ability to understand the needs of people from diverse cultural, social and racial backgrounds
4.4 Willingness to work unsociable hours including evenings and weekends.
