Job Description
Wigan Warriors are seeking a highly motivated practitioner to join our Women’s medical team, with primary responsibility for the medical and rehabilitation provision to the Women’s Academy.

Required days Tuesday Evening/ Thursday Evening / Saturday Morning / Attendance to Academy Match's.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Women’s Lead Therapist and wider multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to Academy players.

The Women’s Academy will be the primary focus of the position. However, depending on the successful candidate’s qualifications, experience and availability, there may also be opportunities to assist with the Women’s First Team medical provision and gain experience within the senior performance environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to Women’s Academy players, working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team to meet individual player needs.
• Assess and manage injuries within the practitioner’s professional scope of practice, referring to other members of the medical team or appropriate specialists where required.
• Plan, deliver and monitor evidence-informed rehabilitation programmes from initial injury through to return to training and competition.
• Work collaboratively with medical, performance and coaching staff to support injury management, return-to-play decisions and player availability.
• Contribute to player screening, injury-risk reduction strategies and the continued development of standards of care across the Women’s programme.
• Provide appropriate medical support at Women’s Academy training sessions and fixtures, including home and away matches as required.
• Maintain accurate and confidential medical records in accordance with professional, Club and RFL requirements.
• Communicate effectively with players, coaches and members of the multidisciplinary team regarding injury management, rehabilitation and player availability.
• Maintain appropriate professional development and contribute positively to the wider Women’s performance programme.
• Where appropriate, support the Women’s First Team medical provision as required.

Qualifications and Experience

We welcome applications from appropriately qualified Physiotherapists, Sports Therapists and Sports Rehabilitators with an interest in sports injury management and rehabilitation.

A physiotherapy qualification would be welcomed; however, suitably qualified Sports Therapists and Sports Rehabilitators will also be considered where their qualifications, professional registration or membership, experience and scope of practice enable them to fulfil the requirements of the role safely and effectively.

Candidates should have:

• An appropriate degree-level or equivalent professional qualification in Physiotherapy, Sports Therapy, Sports Rehabilitation or a relevant equivalent discipline.
• Appropriate current professional registration or membership for their profession.
• Knowledge and practical experience of musculoskeletal assessment, treatment and rehabilitation.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• A commitment to continued professional development and high standards of professional practice.

Previous experience within rugby league, rugby union or another team-sport environment would be advantageous but is not essential.

A current RFL Immediate Medical Management on the Field of Play (IMMOFP) qualification, or an RFL-recognised equivalent, is desirable.

Candidates who do not currently hold IMMOFP or an appropriate equivalent must meet the relevant RFL eligibility requirements to undertake the required qualification and be willing to successfully complete this within the appropriate timeframe. Any pitchside duties will be subject to the individual satisfying the relevant RFL Medical Standards for their profession.

Company Benefits

• Employee discount in Club retail stores.
• Two tickets per employee for home games for Wigan Warriors and Wigan Athletic.
• Free parking.
• Opportunities for professional development and, where appropriate, exposure to the Women’s First Team environment.

The successful candidate will be subject to the appropriate safeguarding and safer-recruitment checks, including a DBS check.

Wigan Warriors is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from suitably qualified candidates from all backgrounds.
