Primary School Sport Specialist - Dance (Freelance basis) Organisation West Lancashire Sport Partnership Salary £110 + per day 4 x days per week Location West Lancashire Contract type Fixed Term (Part time) Closing date 10 February 2026 Interview date 13 February 2026 Job Description We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Dance Specialist to join our primary school team. The successful candidate will lead high-quality dance provision across West Lancashire, delivering engaging and progressive dance lessons using the West Lancashire Sport Partnership planning platform. In addition to teaching, they will play a key role in assessing pupil attainment, supporting staff development in dance through CPD, and delivering a strong extracurricular programme.Key Responsibilities:1. Curriculum DeliveryPlan and deliver engaging, inclusive and progressive dance lessons across Key Stages 1 and 2 using the West Lancashire Sport Partnership planning resources.Ensure that lessons align with the PE national curriculum and promote creativity, physical development and enjoyment in dance.Adapt content and teaching approaches to meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEND.2. Assessment and ReportingMonitor and assess pupil progress in dance throughout a unit of work.Record attainment levels and provide detailed feedback to class teachers and leadership.Support whole-school monitoring and evaluation of PE outcomes.3. Staff Support and CPDProvide ongoing professional development opportunities to teaching and support staff in the delivery of dance.Offer model lessons, team teaching and planning support to improve staff confidence and subject knowledge.Act as a positive role model in promoting high standards of dance teaching and learning.4. Extracurricular ProvisionDesign and deliver a varied and high-quality extracurricular dance programme (e.g. clubs, performances, competitions).Encourage wide participation and support talent development within the school.Organise and lead dance-based events, showcases or performances where appropriate.Person Specification:Essential:Strong background in dance, with experience in delivering dance to primary-aged children.Knowledge of the national PE curriculum and dance-specific learning outcomes.Ability to assess pupil progress effectively and use data to inform teaching.Confident in supporting and mentoring other staff.Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills.Ability to inspire and motivate pupils of all abilities.Desirable:Relevant qualification in dance, PE or sports coaching.Previous experience working within a school environment.Familiarity with the West Lancashire Sport Partnership planning platform.Experience in leading performances, dance festivals or competitions.
