Contract Type: Part-Time (Self-Employed Contractor)
Working Hours: Average of 15-30 hours per week (with seasonal weighting from September to April to align with University BUCS fixtures, training sessions, and High Performance Programme commitments).

The University of East London is a TASS Dual Career Accredited site that prides itself on the flexible support that it offers to the student athletes at the university. Taking an athlete centred approach in everything that we do makes sure the wellbeing and success of the individual is put first. This enables us to create professionals in and out of a sporting context. The performance programme supports International and National level athletes to achieve success whist at UEL.

We are looking to recruit a full-time sports therapist or physiotherapist to join our medical team and provide support to the East London High Performance Programme, East London Talent Pathway Athletes and East London Phoenix Wheelchair Basketball Franchise.

The successful candidate will have responsibilities focused on leading physiotherapy support, treatment, and rehabilitation for the high-performance programme (HPP), East London Talent Pathway Athletes at UEL and East London Phoenix Wheelchair basketball (ELP). Where required they will also provide courtside cover for BUCS fixtures and tournaments. The job will also involve some evening and weekend work at times throughout the year.

You will work with and treat professional, aspiring professional, TASS and university athletes. This opportunity provides an enthusiastic clinician with a broad breadth of experiences. They will be supported by a clinical team including a physiotherapist, osteopath and strength and conditioning coaches.

The role will be based at the University of East London Docklands Campus (Beckton).


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

•  To appropriately manage the treatment and rehabilitation of injured HPP players
•  Work closely with coaches and other support staff to ensure the maintenance and / or return to fitness of injured players.
•  Complete regular player screening and profiling to issue specific injury prevention education and prehab plans to players.
•  To complete all administrative tasks necessary for TASS reporting
•  Support the provision of appropriate medical cover for HPP and ELP fixtures, this will include some Wednesday evenings and Saturdays.
•  Within the rules of professional confidentiality liaise with athletes, parents, coaches, and other support staff.
•  Manage and maintain comprehensive medical notes for each player as required.
•  Promotion of anti-doping practices in line with university expectation and guidelines
•  Attend and support the delivery of weekly team meetings with HPP programmes to provide player medical updates.
•  Work with the HPP programme to provide comprehensive physiotherapy support and guidance to all of its supported athletes.

KEY ATTRIBUTES

Essential
• Bachelor's degree in Sports Therapy, Sports Rehabilitation, or a closely related field such as Physiotherapy or Exercise Science with a sports injury focus.
• Membership or eligibility for membership with a recognized professional body such as:
o The Society of Sports Therapists (SST) – UK
o British Association of Sports Rehabilitators (BASRaT)
o Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) – for physiotherapists working in a sports therapy context
• First Aid and CPR certification
Desirable:
• Postgraduate qualification (e.g., MSc in Sports Therapy, Sports Medicine, or Rehabilitation).
• Additional certifications in:
o Manual therapy techniques
o Kinesiology taping
o Dry needling or acupuncture
o Strength and conditioning (S&C)
• Experience working with elite athletes or in a multidisciplinary sports environment.
We are looking for a committed, hard working individual to join our dynamic medical team. Between ourselves and TASS, we provide access to a comprehensive training programme to accompany the demanding experience of working within this elite sporting environment.
