Job Description
ukactive is the trade association for the physical activity sector. A membership organisation
representing the fitness, leisure, and wider physical activity sector. It exists to provide expert support
to its members on issues of reputational concern, keep members informed, Champion and Represent
its members at all times and to promote & develop growth of the sector. Its work includes providing
business intelligence on sector trends, and lobbying Government to improve members’ operating
landscape, ensuring the impact the sector can have on major societal issues is acknowledged and
maximised. Our ultimate mission is to get ‘More people, more active, more often’.

The Member Experience & Sales Manager will take full ownership of ukactive members within a defined
geographical area and, where required, a specific sector channel. This is a commercially focused role
combining relationship management with proactive sales activity to drive member acquisition, retention,
engagement and revenue growth. You will act as the primary sector-facing contact for members,
responsible for delivering an outstanding member experience while identifying and converting new
business opportunities, upselling relevant services and products, and contributing to overall commercial
sustainability. Internally, you will work closely with teams across ukactive to ensure member insight
informs product development, events, research, partnerships and strategic initiatives. You will operate
with a strong sales mindset, using data, targets and pipeline management to deliver measurable
outcomes.

This role offers the opportunity to combine meaningful relationship management with clear commercial
impact, helping shape the future growth of ukactive and the wider physical activity sector.

Salary & OTE

£40,000 base salary plus a variable OTE of up to £12,000 per year (total potential £52,000). The OTE is
based on achieving annual targets across three key areas:
- New Business (40%) – driving revenue growth from new members, partnerships, and sponsorship
opportunities.
- Retention (40%) – maintaining and renewing existing member relationships within your portfolio.
- Engagement (20%) – fostering active participation in member networks, SPG events, and key
account activities.
Payouts are made quarterly, based on progress against annual targets. Managers who exceed their
targets in Q4 may be eligible for an accelerator, providing additional reward for exceptional performance.
General/ Main Duties
- Act as the primary account manager for members in your designated region, owning
relationships, retention and growth opportunities.
- Proactively identify, develop and close new member sales opportunities, including new business
acquisition and re-engagement of lapsed members.
- Deliver against individual and shared team sales targets, including membership revenue, upsell
and cross-sell opportunities.
- Drive increased member engagement and retention through consultative account management
and value-led conversations.
- Identify opportunities for new ukactive services, products and partnerships, contributing to
commercial sustainability and revenue growth.
- Maintain a strong sales pipeline, accurately forecasting revenue and tracking performance
through CRM systems.
- Analyse member data and engagement metrics to inform proactive, sales-led and strategic
decisions.
- Facilitate and lead regional member networking events, supporting sales conversion,
relationship building and brand visibility, working alongside the Marketing and Events team.
- Work collaboratively across ukactive to support programmes including research, digital, EDI,
health and wellbeing, identifying member value opportunities in these workstreams
- Support the development, refinement and rollout of the ukactive member value proposition.
- Contribute to productivity and efficiency improvements across departments, championing
commercial thinking.
- Support senior team members in mentoring and developing new recruits within the Membership
Experience team.
- Hold financial responsibility within your portfolio, ensuring budgets and revenue targets are
effectively managed.
- Represent ukactive professionally at events, meetings and external forums, acting as a brand
ambassador.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Essential
- Proven experience in a sales-focused role, with a demonstrable track record of achieving or
exceeding revenue targets.
- Strong background in account management and relationship development, with the ability to
grow and retain accounts commercially.
- Minimum 3+ years’ experience in sales, business development or commercial roles.
- Ability to identify opportunities, build pipelines and close deals using a consultative sales
approach.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills, with confidence engaging senior
stakeholders.
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills, able to represent the organisation credibly and
persuasively.
- Commercially minded, data-driven and comfortable working with financial targets and forecasts.
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail and time management.
- Ability to work independently in a field-based role while contributing positively to a highperforming team.
- Passion for health, fitness and wellbeing, with strong alignment to ukactive’s mission.
- Understanding of the physical activity sector and its key stakeholders across public and private
operators.
- Awareness and understanding of Local Government Authority processes.

Experience
- Demonstrable experience in sales, revenue generation and commercial growth.
- Experience managing budgets and financial responsibility.
- Experience producing reports, presentations and performance updates.
- Degree or industry equivelant experience

Desirable
- Experience using CRM systems and dashboards for performance indicators (e.g. Salesforce).
- Experience of budget planning and financial systems.
- Experience working within local government or public sector environments.
- Line management or mentoring experience.
- Experience in product or service development and route-to-market planning.
- Project management experience.
- Experience working within the Physical Activity Sector
