Job Description
The Opportunity...

British Rowing and the UK Sports Institute have an exciting opportunity as we look to recruit a Senior Performance Lifestyle (PL)Coach. We are seeking a passionate practitioner with experience of supporting athletes through living the values of UKSI and the PL team and by taking a coaching and mentoring approach.

The GB Rowing Team (GBRT) has a phenomenal track record of performance at the highest levels of Olympic and Paralympic sport and is seeking an exceptional PL coach to support and develop our elite athletes as they continue to deliver successful performances at the LA 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Location: British Rowing functions out of a bespoke National Training Centre in Caversham (near Reading) where athletes can train both on the water and on land whilst receiving World Class Coaching and Support Services. Delivery will mainly be in person; however, remote work will be necessary at different phases including when squads are away at camps or competitions.

GBRT Vision: A world leading Olympic and Paralympic nation which inspires and creates opportunities for anyone capable of delivering or supporting success to realise their dreams regardless of background.

GBRT Mission: To deliver a programme which consistently produces gold medal success and creates the environment where athletes and staff thrive.

British Rowing takes pride in the tradition of success that it has created through the development and performances of athletes on the world stage.

A snapshot of the role

This is an exciting opportunity to work within one of Great Britain’s most successful sporting teams. Reporting to the UKSI Performance Lifestyle Technical Lead. The post holder will work directly with the Women’s Olympic and Rowing Development squads and will work in close collaboration with GB Rowing’s existing Senior PL Coach who works with the Men’s and the Paralympic squads to ensure that by supporting and developing the whole person there can be a positive impact now and in the future for the athlete as a person and the performer.

Previous experience within rowing is not essential but a passion to learn more about the sport is.

We are looking for an experienced and suitably qualified practitioner who can work collaboratively in a demanding, high pressured performance environment within an interdisciplinary support team. It is important to be accessible, approachable, and visible in this role to ensure that the needs of the athletes are being addressed.

For you to succeed you will bring enthusiasm, creativity and energy to the role and have a genuine desire to help athletes achieve their performance aspirations.

What makes joining British Rowing and the UKSI compelling?

This is your opportunity to work within one of Great Britain’s most successful sporting teams by shaping the future of the rowers looking to succeed at the Los Angeles Olympics and Paralympics in 2028. Not only will you be well supported within the GBRT NTC, but you will have Performance Lifestyle technical leadership for your continued professional development.

The GBRT Sports Science and Medicine Team (SSSM) aligns it’s work to the GBRT “What it Takes to Win” model that has a holistic approach to developing people. The foundations lie in three main strands: Physical, Technical, and Psychological. There are interdisciplinary projects underpinning these in the following five key areas: Adapting, Available, Efficient, Thriving, and Developing.

If you are looking for a job that brings new challenges daily and you feel you can bring the expertise and passion that we require to help us shape our future, we very much look forward to hearing from you.
