Job Description
Who We Are
Founded in 1882, Tottenham Hotspur is an iconic English football club, playing in the Premier League and Women’s Super League. From north London to the world, our fanbase spans continents, cultures, and generations. Spurs is a club that has always dared to push boundaries, breaking new ground and rewriting history.

We offer world-class facilities. In 2019, we opened our state-of-the-art stadium, a £1 billion landmark that’s the beating heart of north Tottenham’s transformation. More than just a football ground, it’s an engine of change — creating 4,000 jobs and injecting £300 million into the local economy every year.

We’re at our brightest when we’re all together. Our Club, our teams, our community.

There is only one Hotspur. Tottenham Hotspur.

The Role
A position has recently become available for a Senior Event Safety Manager to lead and manage the Club’s event day safety operation on a rotational basis, but to also take ownership of the Club’s major events planning and resourcing working in collaboration with the other Senior Safety Officer
The role will ensure that all event day stewards and security teams are deployed as per the terms of the Safety Certificate and the wider event plan.

The position retains direct line management responsibilities for the Steward Managers and will be required to support, inspire, develop and manage each member accordingly. There is further requirement to provide ongoing support, inspiration, development and mentoring for the directly employed wider stewarding workforce as part of the event day role.

Mentoring, driving and developing all members of the direct reports with a view to pushing internal career progression and training is seen as being as important as providing operational safety strategy
Whilst the position will work hand in hand with the other Senior Event Safety Manager this role is expected to review and develop all existing procedures/work practices along with current event day operations to ensure that we provide nothing less than a world class customer experience within a safe, structured, controlled environment.

The role reports directly to the Stadium Director and demands strong leadership, a thorough and complete understanding of the Club’s operating procedures and must demonstrate not only a desire but also an absolute commitment to offer the very best service standards, team development and operational preparedness and presentation.

The role requires a role model that will lead by example and demonstrate personal qualities that will inspire and drive the event safety team to create a world class safety, security and service culture throughout the Club across all levels of our event day operation.

The event day safety team is currently structured so that three Safety Officers share the responsibility of managing the Club’s event day safety operation and manage the internal stewarding work force as defined in the general safety certificate during major events. There will be no change to this event day format with all Safety Officers alternating between the role of Lead Safety Officer (LSO) and Safety Officer (SO) on a rotational basis thus ensuring evenness of responsibility. Note that the Lead Safety Officer will report to the Stadium Director on an event day irrespective of who is undertaking the role.
For clarity the Stadium Director assumes the role of Director Responsible for Safety on match days and will ensure that the Lead Safety Officer has the authority to implement any actions necessary to ensure the safety of spectators and employees within the stadium campus during the period in which the safety certificate is in force.

The Lead Safety Officer shall have no other duties on an event day other than those involved in the execution of the role of Safety Officer.

Key Responsibilities
To not only lead and manage the Club’s event day safety operation on a rotational basis, but to also take ownership of the Club’s major events planning and resourcing working in collaboration with the other Senior Safety Officer
To maintain and oversee robust, auditable systems, operational contingencies and controls for the safety of spectators attending the stadium that not only ensure compliance with the general safety certificate and the Club’s safety policy but also create a world class event day experience for all, taking into account the needs of all major stakeholders.
To oversee the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) of the permanent event safety stewarding team.
To assist and develop and deliver additional training which supports the wider ambitions of the Club to include Diversity Equality & Inclusion, safeguarding and customer service training.
To review the performance of the wider stewarding team to ensure training compliance and service standards.
To own the auditable process for ensuring the delivery and use of the uniform and equipment required by the event safety team to include but not limited to handheld radios, uniform, body worn cameras etc.
To share the Broadcasting responsibilities and lead for event day operations
To support the continued development and audit of General Safety Certificate - Operations Manual
To help shape and create a world class event day experience for all, taking into account the needs of all major stakeholders.
To retain budget control for the stewarding of all major events in conjunction with the other Senior Event Safety Manager

Document Control
To oversee the production of major event safety documentation for internal distribution to include event overview, briefing sheets, handbooks, toolbox training sheets and any other documentation to support the flow of event information throughout the Club.
To review existing and develop new contingency plans with outside agencies and continually monitor and review such plans to ensure that those agencies make no changes to the detriment of the Club’s own documents.
